I've got a very huge problem.
Nail biting. I'm starting to think I'm addicted to it. I've been consulting my parents about it, but they've got no good adivce, as I bite my nails subconsciously. I myself think I should go see a doctor, but before I do that, I'd like to know if there's a safe and non-"shamanic" cure to it all that doesn't involve medicines or a "second party". Please note that I also have developed a downright disgusting habit of not just biting my fingernails, but my toenails, also. Please try to help.

Shocked How on earth can you bend enough to bite your toenails?!?!

Anyway, there's this liquid you put on your nails, just like if it was nail polish, but it's clear as water; which you can get at any pharmacy I think. The trick is, it smells and tastes awful. If that doesn't stop you, duct tape your mouth shut and get your food via intravenous. And get Stephen Hawking's talking-machine-thingy. Just don't forget to brush your teeth before doing it Razz

LOL.. oh boy.. even your toes??.. wow !.. Nail biting is a sign of nervous irritability usually... I have also heard in some cases that it can be a symptom of intestinal worms..Lots of ppl have this esp, if they have pets it's just a fact of life.. maybe give yourself a treatment?. I heard some parasites make the host do weird things and another sign of this is nightmares/nightterrors and nightsweats.. anyway.. as for a cure.. Disco stu's idea sounds ok but really you have to fix what is causing you to bite your nails... There is a reason for everything.. I don't think seeing a doctor will do you much good he will only suggest the same (special nail paint..) Goodluck tho.. hate to think you are sitting there biting your toe nails reading this.. Razz

It's not a symptom of intestinal worms,it what causes them....now Knjaz, that's seriously dangerous...I got worms once from just biting my fingernails, but who knows what kind of beasts you have inside Shocked
Solution?Try to understand what's causing it first, and then figure out a solution
but you might try tying your hands to your feet behind your back and get someone else to feed you type for you etc etc
And maxud's right,cut them regularly
But I mean really cut them,so that there's nothing to bite on

And how old are you,btw?

You're right Jameerica I know it can cause infestations too, u have to be careful.. I was coming from a different angle anyway because The waste products or toxins given off by parasites can irritate the nervous system, resulting in anxiety and restlessness and some ppl react to anxiety & restlessness by biting their finger nails.. so it can be a vicious cycle..
Anyway i am not saying he has worms, but if he's stickin his feet and toe nails in his mouth.. well it is a strong possibility... He'd have to be showing other signs too.. Anemia is a big one.. anyway, it was only a suggestion ..he said wanted ideas... but it is probably some sort of nervous related condition causing it..

I'm 15. I don't really know what causes me to bite my nails, but I think it's stress -- in a way.

I dunno I used to swing my leg back and forth when I was under stress
