=> GOOD Jazz albums <=
If you're only getting into jazz, here's a few albums I personally would recommend:

"Kind of Blue", "In a silent Way" and "Bitches Brew" by Miles Davis.
"Headhunters" & "Empyrean Isles" by Herbie Hancock.
"Time Out" by the Dave Brubeck Quartet.
"Out to Lunch" by Eric Dolphy. (Turn your speakers down for this one, it's a pretty loud record)
"Street of Dreams" and "Idle Moments" by Grant Green. (VERY underrated guitarist!)
"Incognito" by Spyro Gyra. REALLY great jazz-rock.
"Mingus Ah Um" by Charles Mingus.

Not-so-great, but still damn nice:

"N.E.W.S" by Prince/O(+>/TAFKAP/that tiny little purple J.W. that wears platforms all the time. The intro to "North" reminds me of Hancock's "Chameleon" intro... JUST BEWARE: This record is not something you can listen to at any time you desire. Save it for either a hot day, or a stormy night.

I've heard some of Headhunters, it's odd but good! I'll be checking out the rest.

I'd also like to recommend one of my personal favorites, a jazz fusion album, 'Places And Spaces', Donald Byrd.

D!

OMG I gotta check that one out. BTW, just heard some of Herbie Hancock's "Inventions and Dimensions" album. Great stuff, now. I'd grab that album if hadn't gotten it already.

N.E.W.S. (Grammy Award Nominee!) is really good session, but I prefer Xpectation by the same band + violin by Vanessa Mae.

buffaloman_R Hello, buffaloman_R

Wink Spot on on the Marsalis recommendations, Jamin, good stuff there for awaiting ears Wink! I would suggest one of the timeless albums of Dexter Wansel, like....

Life On Mars - Dexter Wansel

Smile Truly some potent jazzy funk there from the "forefathers", enjoy Smile! Cheers!

Sincerely,
JamiroFan2000

Yeah, Jean-Luc Ponty played with Frank Zappa.
But I have another jazz album here: Wayne Shorter's Schizophrenia
