Jay is dead. Since 1998... (This just a joke)
...and I can prove that!
First of all, the cover art for Synkronized, especially the midfold of the booklet, and the photos on the credits page might suggest an 'absence'. Photos with Jay in them were rarely with a dark background. The thing with these ones is that they were shot in the dark. Shot. ...Like "Boom boom you dead now". The black also looks a pretty damn like a void, too.
The front cover features the 'mirror buffalo' lying on the ground ("dead"). In ancient times, mirrors were seen as portals into one's soul, so let us conisder the fact that there are leafless trees in the reflection. Not actually death, but a symbol of "sleep" during the winter and "rebirth" in the spring. The mirror is also shot from such an angle, that it seems that it's sliding down into a grave.
The first page of the booklet for Synkronized features a buffalo man mirror. There's a pavillion-like, ghostly structure in the reflection, visible in a part of the reflected image.Also note that the branches are 'symmetrically' connected between the flipped photos in which the buffalo men are also flipped. That might suggest that Jay was quickly replaced with a double, in the early days of the album's recording process. Ever noticed the sudden change in his taste for music and fashion at that time?
On the next page, one can see the tracklist. If one adds up the track times, one can easily calculate the times for sides A and B, finding the 'side break' in the process, which happens between 'Falling' and 'Destitute Illusions'. The lines "Somebody help me, because I'm falling" clearly refer to the fact that Jay knew who his murderer was, and that he faced him only moments before his death.
Certain letters from the words "Destitute Illusions" can be annagrammed into:
- "Die lutenist slit sou" ("The lute player was stabbed [slit] to death", lutenist clearly referring to Jay's 'job' as a musician)
- "Die Silent Suits Lout" ("Silently killed")
- "Die Utensil Slits Out" ("Death by stabbing using a utensil". This might refer to a knife, while 'out' might either refer to the fact that Jay might have passed out from loss of blood before he died or that something was 'out'... Out? 'Outside', as in 'the garden in the booklet'?)
- "Die Silent Soils Tutu". While Jay might've faced his killer only moments before his death, possibly in the garden, as indicated by the word 'soils', he might've not known that one of his friends was going to kill him, suddenly and silently.
The picture of the buffalo man mirror on the right may refer metaphorically to the 'old Jay's untimely death. The mirror is set to rest against a tree, with three trees in the background. On the credits page, there are pictures of 4 core band members: Jay, Toby, Derrick and Wallis. The trees might represent Toby, Derrick and Wallis, with Jay being the mirror that's facing away from the band, in a sad-looking position. Another interesting fact is that the branches expanding across the reflection in the mirror look like stitches, and they're all over his 'face'. Fits perfectly in with the knife scenario.
The next page is the production credits page, which might hold a code I'm not really able to crack. The next image of the buffalo man mirror is a one in which it's (again) lying on the ground, with small droplets of water scattered all over the surface. You know, people cry when somebody important to them dies. And not just that, but the fact that the mirror's actually Jay lying on the ground like a dead man, with a reflection of heaven in 'himself' clicks in nicely, too.
On the "thankyous" page I mentioned earlier, Toby's thankyous open with a rather odd quote:
"8 years down the line [ha ha]"
'8 years' might be a subtle reference to the year 1998. 'Down the line' refers to the lowering of the coffin into the grave, while [ha ha]... Well, just look at it...
[ha ha]
It looks like a coffin viewed from a top-down perspective. The brackets, [ and ] refer to the coffin's edges, while the two 'ha's look like lids... I mean, you HAVE seen those double-lided coffins in those shitty drama B-movies, no? This is probably evidence that Jay was killed and buried in 1998.
The image on the next page is the mirror, but this time, it's gravitating towards the sky. Could this possibly refer to his spirit?
The next page is completely black. Black needs blacklight, so give it some blacklight if you can, I feel like there's something there.
The next image shows the mirror submerged into a stream. If the previous image was the mind, this is certainly the ass, that's being washed away by time, just like everything of material nature.
The next image is something I don't completely understand. A floating cherry blossom, and the spirit looking back down at the ground? Seems like heaven to me. The next image is simply the rocks from the front cover, but without the mirror. The same image is on the CD. could this refer to the fact that the Jay is dead, and that the "inkless" buffalo man on the cover is simply... A substitute?
The inlay is empty. It usually featured either the bandmembers, Jay or the buffalo man. Now it's empty. Oh, I wonder why...!!

So, the analysis of the cover art has brought me to one single conclusion:
Jay was killed and buried in 1998, explaining the sudden changes. A funeral service and an investigation were conducted in secret, so that it all wouldn't turn into a media circus. It seems that the original members knew much about the murder, and have left little clues for us to follow to the big truth, as they really couldn't keep it all to themselves. In the meantime, an extreme Jay lookalike and soundalike was found, and was meant to replace and slowly become the singer we all know as J now. The real Jason was brutally murdered at his own home by a person he had a good relationship with, and had no reason to be suspicious of. He was brutally slashed across his face with a knife, later passing out and dying from extreme loss of blood.

Uh-oh... this whole scheme rings a bell...
Although it might be possible, I believe you've had too much of Paul Is Dead. Sadly, though I recall seeing everything you mention here, I can't give it a closer look since Synk is the only album I don't have yet (dammit man, why couldn't you find all these clues in AFO or TWM instead?)
There really is only one way to find out the truth... and I still haven't invented the time machine, so don't expect me to find out soon.

uh oh! discostu! the answer will be given only to the real fans with the complete discography of at least one version of each album in cd and the june 8 promo, where, according with my latest investigations is the key of the code in the credits...i also suspect that japanese version of synk with all those bonus tracks must contain so many messages; to start i'm gonna reverse getinfunky, it's pretty sure that in fact that track was written by the recently incorporated jay kay and toby smith, and the parrot history was just a clue they gave to us. toby and new jay (we will call him "jai kai" ("party gull" in basque language)) clearly refers to jay when they say "parrot" (as a way of joking of the singer) and the told us there in that history that the parrot called funky (more clear impossible!) flew away.

And not just that, but I've actually got proof that KFAD and WDWGFH tell the location of Jay's grave. Now look at the front cover of AFO. J's clearly jumping there like a madman, trying to look tall and all. Try and check Stop Don't Panic. It's said that there's a secret message in that song that reveals itself after you take an aspirine overdose after listening to the song 10 times in a row. It says something like BSDFDFAFDGSDFDFGSFDS. I think it's a secret codeword to the name of the killer.
And yeah, too much Paul Is Dead is baaaaaad... It's got a lot of alcohol per tin. |
