Herbie Hancock: "Sextant"
...Friggin' awesome! First heard "Rain Dance" a while ago when looking for some spicey psych-jazz, and this is EXACTLY what I wanted. Dancable, just like "Hidden Shadows", which reminds me a little of the early-to-mid Funkadelic for some reason. And then there's OMG "Hornets" - possibly the most paranoid, dissonant sonic thrillride I've ever heard. Ya, sure, it ain't "Headhunters", but it ain't that bad, too. |

Ok Knaz I have yet to hear this one! but I'm sure it's great, I'll probably check it out on iTunes now.
Thanks.
I just bought (the physical CD) of Herbie Hancock' "Thrust" which was the follow up album to the 1974 Headhunters album.
The first song is "Palm Grease" which starts out sounding almost exactly like "God Made Me Funky" and essentially it is almost an instrumental version of the song. there are some different melodies and the time is different. But you tell where the headhunters (which is almost the same group) minus Herbie hancock, got the song from.
The Headhunters album where "God Made Me Funky" came from is out of press, but you can by it as a Japanese import "Survival of the Fittest"
"Palm Grease" from "Thrust" is 10min 38sec long!!!!!!!!!!
Fantastic!
The Headhunters also recently released two "modern" albums which didn't really get good reviews.
"Evolution Revolution" and "Return of the headhunters"
