Elizabeth Shepherd - jazz pianist/singer from Canada
I just love this woman and have had her on repeat since July. I also saw her in concert and she is just mind-blowing. Very soft, delicate and intimate with her voice and the music is something I can definitely vibe to. She just did a remix album too that is pretty nice and put a spin on some of her originals. I figure some of you might dig her.
She is heavily pushed by Giles Peterson and has gotten strong accolades from jazz mags and musicians around the world.
Here is her site where you can listen to clips: http://dorightmusic.com/elizabeth.htm
I put some suggestions..
Scroll down to the bottom where you see this album:
Listen to: Midnight Sun, Start to Move, and Just Getting By (the first one listed).
Here is her myspace: http://www.myspace.com/elizabethshepherd
More about her:
"With a remix roster that really brings out the limitless potential of this diamond in the ruff... her already accomplished debut lives again." - Montreal Mirror
"A whole new level of genius from one of our favorite artists of the past few years -- a step past her amazing debut album, and a showcase for the sorts of exposure and circulation her music has gotten in the aftermath of its release." - Dusty Groove
"One Trump Card - Deep, Bluesy groove with this sulky midnight number about hard luck and the one card that can change it. Shepherd's fortune looks better all the time." - Globe & Mail
Although Start to Move would be found in the jazz section at your local music shop, Elizabeth’s blend of jazz-funk, soul, blues and samba reaches far beyond just the jazz massive. Besides is a collection of dancefloor remixes, b sides, exclusives and unreleased gems that will appeal to all music lovers. _________________ www.dee34.wordpress.com |
