Let's talk about Herbie H's "Mwandishi" period.
You know, I love the music he made with that early 70's sextet. They only record three albums and then disbanded because '72's "Sextant" didn't sell well, what forced Hancock to form the headhunters and record and release 1973's "Headhunters" title, which is probably well known to everyone. Here are the three albums they recorded:
Mwandishi (1970):
Crossings (1971):
Sextant (1972):
It's a nice, yet forgotten series of slightly conceptual records. If you want to get into it, try any of the records. They're not very acessible, but the reward is great if you can get yourself to dig 'em. Oh, and they can get really funky, too. Those three records are a real salad of styles. |
