Cosmic Girl
Ok, so I am a new member and registered here because I have the weirdest question for you guys.
So, here it goes. You guys probably all know Jay Kay's song Cosmic Girl, but what I find interesting is the music clip of this song which you can find here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CyJvgnP9-vA . You see a couple of exotic cars driving, among them a purple Lamborghini Diablo SE30. Now, this is what I am really interested in. Because I am a Lamborghini enthusiast and I have been working on a Diablo SE registry for a couple of years now. There were only 150 of these cars made in 1994-1995, and they were all given a number of 150 made. The car has a special plate behind the driver's seat with the number of the car (Vettura N xxx/150), and several plates with the whole chassis number. Now, I understand that this could be really uninteresting information to some of you but I have been looking for information about this car for a long time and in an desperate attempt I decided to ask here for information. What I would really like to know is the story behind the car, because from what I understand someone, either jay Kay or someone else, crashed the car during the filming of the video clip. The problem is that the sources on the internet contradict each other as this source for example: http://www.lambocars.com/archive/crashed/se.htm says that it was someone else driving when the car crashed but other sources say Jay Kay himself was driving. Also, several sources on the web say that there was a similar car used in the video clip after the accident, while others say that the crash occured after the filming of the video clip and no replacement car was needed. Now the other really important (for me) information I am looking for is obviously the number of this car of 150 made. Fortunately I found the car on a British car salvage website here: http://www.motorsalvage.com/action.lasso?-database=cms&-table=cmscars&-response=gendisplay.lasso&-maxrecords=1&id=27694&-search . I contacted them several times but they do not respond, and I know the car has been on their website for a long time so maybe they no longer have it. Now, I know that jay Kay himself must remember the number of the car but I obviously cannot contact him, but I thought some of you might? I know this is really a weird question but I really have spent days looking for more information. Also I would be interested that if it really is the case that another Diablo SE was used in the video clip, what the number of that car is.

Here are the words of Jay Kay himself. This is taken from the MTV interview called The Essential Jamiroquai (1997). Not much help with the numbers, but it confirms that both cars were crashed/damaged by other people, not Jay Kay.

But they want start filming some stuff we weren't going to do. And this "precision" driver "precisely" took it around the corner and "precisely" let the back end come out and knocked the camera crew off a cliff and caused 20,000 pounds worth of damage to it. That was the second one. You'll see on the video is that the wind screen is missing. On the second cut when you see me singing away, the wind screen is missing, so they've taken the bonnet off and camera facing in there. So I'm driving around with this camera right there, around these mountain roads and trying to sing to the song but in fact that if the glass had been there you wouldn't have been able to see it. So it was quite amusing and it's all down at Lamborghini at the moment being fixed up. So I said..i said hehe, I just laughed, well that's a lie, in fact I shouted so much that I didn't have enough voice to do a gig afterwards." |

Thanks a lot for that, that must be the most reliable information you can get! So 1 car was totaled in Germany (I wonder what the car was doing there but anyway), and the car that you can actually see in the music video was slightly damaged. What he says though that there was only one other purple SE in the UK is false though, I know that for sure, there were at least 3 in the UK at that time but who cares lol. I wonder though what he did with the car after the video was taken, if he sold it, because I know it is no longer in his collection, he now has a Ferrari Enzo and stuff. He's a real car nut, also owns/owned a Lamborghini Miura SV, you can see him and the car from 4:00 in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TvAwY7wWBuk . Anyone know if he ever visits this forum, it would be nice to ask him for the numbers I am sure he would be glad to help me out as a Lamborghini enthusiast himself. |
