Hmm. I'm more or less an atheist as this stage of my life, but I think nonetheless you should try to be more respectful to people's beliefs. I know for a fact that there are many religious people in this forum.

I always try to support reason. It's the way forward.

...and a good kicking with a few fatal beatings thrown in for good measure. Especially for those pesky Buddhists - they're definitely the worst...

I don't have much time to go into a deep discussion here ...( I could write a book about it, if I'd write everything I have in my mind).... but just a few thoughts at this point:

I think some words in this topic are disrespectful and can hurt because of different interpretation of what has been said. Those who are against religion obviously mean the "institution" religion which has been misused by religious leaders. There have been (and still is) lots of bad things done in "the name of religion". I think most people agree that this is bad and nothing we need.

BUT, when you say religious people are stupid (you might not mean this but people who call themselves religious could understand it like this) might feel offended. But this is a question of definition. Those who call themselve religious probably define themselves as religious because they do believe in something (god, allah, or just call it nature, or consciousness or energy... something you cannot really see or explain, but something that could explain the reason why we ARE).

Alone the fact that you BELIEVE (in whatever) is not stupid. Nobody has the right to judge anyones believes and this should be respected.

You can of course criticize the way religions have used their power in the past and present. But you cannot blame all people who believe in something. Be careful what you say if you don't want to offend those who have good intentions.

I, myself, do believe in something. It is difficult to put it into words... maybe I try to explain it here later. I just want to point out that I do believe, but I am not religious because I find in every religion something I can relate to and also things I do not agree with. So, there is some thruth in every religion, but there have been so many things manipulated that I cannot rely on everything. So, I don't want to decide for one religion. And I don't need to, because I can have my own faith without a religion.

So, i would call myself spiritual - not bound to any religion.
I do believe that we have a soul, that all people, all living creatures, nature, stones, water, our planet, the whole universe is connected - we are all one, and everyone, everything is little piece of one big consciousness. Some might call it god - I'd rather call it a kind of energy or consciousness, which I am a part of.

So I believe that everything that I do to others comes back to me, hence we are all connected and ONE. I respect any kind of life and think that love it the key.

In my opinion it doesn't make sense to throw in some comments here which can be misunderstood and offend lots of people. Better would be to discuss in a respectful way, to explain what can be criticized on religions for example.
I have also read about some people who say they disproved parts of Darwins theories - very interesting. So, there is a lot to discuss.
