Great Linford Studios - Travelling Without Moving
hi
i am offering to make
a new section for discussing Jamiroquai history.
or lets make Bandmembers section a place where we can discuss
it as well.
This thread is about Great Linford Studios,
studio where Travelling Without Moving was recorded.
from wikipedia:

Linford Manor is an old mansion or manor house converted into a recording studio complex in Great Linford, Milton Keynes, England. It is now owned by Pete Winkleman who is the owner of Milton Keynes Football Club
It was originally the manor of Little Linford as well as of Great Linford.
Artists:
Biffy Clyro recorded their second album, The Vertigo Of Bliss, there - and, according to an urban myth, took just 24 hours to do so. Other artists to record there are: Jamiroquai, ELO, Oasis, Wildhearts, PJ Harvey and Matmatah. |
Great Linford Studios are owners of Neve mixing desk console
from Abbey Road, in 70s used by for example PINK FLOYD
on 'Wish you were here' album.
this particular console has name "BABBY ROAD".
For those who doesnt know, NEVE is top of the line
studio mixing console brand.
Blake Devitt, who is considered by many to be the best NEVE technician,
says that this is his favourite NEVE console.
(btw i have read Neve consoles made for EMI are supposed to be the best)

Great Linford Manor is about an hours drive from central London, near Milton Keynes. The building is very grand and impressive, yet friendly and warm in character and is very old, c1700. The studio area used to be a ball-room, so it was designed as a room for musicians in the first place and the sound of the recording area is fantastic, and following its massive changes to the control room, make the studio a great choice for anyone that uses real instruments.
Pete Winkelman, Great Linford's owner, has recently shipped his old classic console to an American collector in L.A. and in its place, Pete's installed a VRL which he's imported from Japan. The hot news though is that in addition to the Neve, a classic EMI console from Abbey Road (vintage 1972) has been wired up to the main console to offer a mix of recording qualities. The console first started life recording Pink Floyd's 'Wish you were here' album!
The studio, like all British residential's, has a great atmosphere. New producer interviews are being filmed at the studio, so pop to the bottom of the page to choose....
Err, who is that Blake guy?
Well, possibly one of the most talented Neve tech's alive, well, he's completely mad really! |
ALL CHANGE AT GREAT LINFORD MANOR.

The Studio at Great Linford Manor has undergone a major change of installed equipment. The Neve VRL60 console was de-commissioned by Scotch McNeil Audio (on behalf of AES Pro Audio) and the EMI Neve frame was moved in. The classic Neve, owned by Pete Winkelman, was rebuilt by Blake Devitt and his expertise allowed for the fitting of input
metering across all 72 Mic inputs and the mix down capabilities are now increased to 96 channels. All channels are controlled by Flying Faders making this a truly awesome vintage Neve console! |
A great discussion about NEVE consoles
with Blake Devitt taking part in it:

Btw Toby Smith also has Neve console at his Angelic studios,

Built in 1981, so one of the very last built. Shipped to Nigeria for
Ginger Baker, where it stayed until ANGELIC STUDIOS bought it
in 2005 and lovingly restored it. |
