Buying an electric guitar, HELP needed!
Hi people , I'm going to buy an electric guitar .
I don't have much money, I've been playing acoustic but have almost 0 knowledge about this, so I'm not lloking for a Pro guitar, just something affordable and good for a starter level.
After getting info from forums, videos, and stuff, I ended up with these 3 and I can't decide which one to buy.
The first one is an Squier (by Fender) Stratocaster (California Series)
Of course it won't sound like an USA made Fender (it's not a fender and its made in China).
the second one is the same Squier California series but a Telecaster model
And the third one is an Epiphone (by Gibson) Les Paul Special II
(I found very good reviews of this one)
So, as I said before, I know these guitars are far from being great guitars, but I read Epiphone mades better quality guitars compared to what Squier has to offer in this "Low End" level for the same price (around 170 €), but I don't know what to do, cause the Squiers seem appropriate for the music style I like (such as Chili Peppers, John Mayer, Dave Matthews, Incognito, and of course, Jamiroquai).
And the last one, the Les Paul seems "heavier" (has different mics) and I listened to some funky rythms on it, wich were very good, very 70's, but different compared to the other ones I mentioned... but I don't know why but I kinda like this one very much, the shape, something in its sound... I can't explain it.
So, maybe someone from the Jamily can give a hand .
please feel free to tell me what you know about guitars like these, opinions, anything that can help me here will be great |

Out of the three guitars you have up there, the Epiphone is definitely the most solid choice. Keep in mind though; it isn't the guitar that plays the guitarist, but the other way around
If the sound of the Epiphone doesn't sit all that well but you find the guitar be comfortable otherwise (as in, the feel of the neck, weight, etc.), you'll find a way to manipulate the sound into something that suits you.
Also, if you've only made this choice through reviews on the internet, it's probably smarter to stay flexible about it and head down to the nearest instrument shop and try them out first hand, or some others that catch your eye _________________

Also, a lot of the characteristics of the sound are determined more by your amp than the guitar itself, so keep that in mind too.

I have a fender stratocaster american deluxe, and a fender telecaster., My friend has a gibson les paul, wich is similar of the model you find good. I can surely say the best type of guitar for the sound you want to extract is coming from the telcaster. Despite the strat being extremely versatile and an all-round good guitar, the tele has the clean and laid back sound that a good funky vibe needs. If you want to check out, you will notice that simon katz used teles extensively through TWM tour, and the strats were used proeminently on synkronized and TROTSC tours, wich their type of sound suited better.
Anyways in the end the choice is up to you _________________ At the speed of cheeba, you and I go deeper... |

Thanks for your opinions
So, I went to the store and tried them, and I ended up buying the Stratocaster, the "fat" version, which comes features one humbucker in the bridge paired with two single coil pickups in the neck and middle positions. The telecaster was nice too, it has a very particular clean sound, but the Strat seemed to be what I was looking for .
thanks again for your help, it was very helpful, really |
