Italian Acid Jazz
I want to share something with you...
I remember the first time (1994) I listened "Dirotta su Cuba" on the radio, it was stunning for me, never heard something with such a "different" sound and in my language, I mean I was 10 years old and I could understand what they saying!!!

This acid jazz/funky trio, maybe the unique in Italy that mixes both the genres, came out just in time along with the original, British, phenomenon:

"Dirotta Su Cuba's journey into pop music began in 1989, when the trio from Tuscany, Italy, captured the public's attention with their brand of pop influenced funk. Dirotta spent several years gigging and changing band members before they got their break in 1994 with the hit "Gelosia" and with the release of a platinum selling LP in 1995 titled "Dirotta Su Cuba", which remained in the Italian charts for several months. The group went on to explore such forms of music as acid jazz, big band and 60's sounds, releasing albums like "Nonostante Tutto", "Dentro Ad Ogni Attimo" and "Fly"

NOW, 15 years later, a reunion of the original band.
The project is called "BACK TO THE ROOTS" and sees them on tour again!

If you are in Italy or are planning to come, here's the live dates:

- 22-08-2009 Cinisi (PA)
- 30-08-2009 Castagnole Delle Lanze (AT)
- 30-09-2009 Blue Note - Milano

I think I'll make the Blue Note!

And more dates are coming...

They seems the Italian version of Deee-Lite in this picture, isn't it?

Thanks to Franca (Incognito forum Smile) for the news and to have brought them back into my memory!

It's great to know that the spirit of acid jazz lives on in such a wonderful country. Hope you enjoy the gig Wink .

Edit: OMG! sounds like Jamiroquai from a parallel universe! Good stuff: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TCgQwH-N7nA .

I remember one artist from the acid jazz movement there in Italy: Paolo Anchenza. I like his music, did you know him Laura?

Never heard before...
I found this on Wikipedia:

"Paolo Achenza is an Italian jazz pianist from Bari and was one of the first Italian artists involved with the acid jazz scene. In the second half of the 1990s, he formed the Paolo Achenza Trio with Stefano Valenzano and Massimiliano Ingrosso to make various albums and singles.

In 2004, he joined the Groove Squared project with Paco DJ for the CD single release "The Single" (Kutmusic) and in 2005 an album on Evolution Music.
"

I will see for some stuff around the net.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge good
