Jamiroquai Songs You Grew To Like
This thread is inspired by sandriche's post about jamiroquai tunes that you didn't like at first.... but eventually grew to enjoy.

I'll give some examples from each album...

EOPE - Revolution 1993

Never really paid much attention to this track at first. Other tracks overshadowed it, I guess, and this one is really long as well so that might've had something to do with it. One day when I decided to give it a listen, it just clicked. The two bridges on this song are the best part, imo, and I really wish they were longer by one or two minutes. I also like the demo version more than the album cut, because it has a crisper sound.

TROTSC - Kids

I originally considered this track to be too repetitive and harsh. But it's funny, because now I really enjoy this song for that very reason. My favorite parts are the bridge and when Jay keeps repeating "Everybody's talkin about-" seven times in a row I think. I get a kick out of high speed lyrics. Cool

TWM - Travelling Without Moving

I'm not really sure why I ignored this track at first. I think it might've been the intro. I think I also felt like this track wasn't fully developed or something. Anyway, after I listened to this song on a nice stereo system, I really liked it. Having a nice speaker set up really helps with some of these songs, I gotta say. I also wish the album cut were longer. It's criminally short!! It should've been at least 5 minutes long, imo. It fades out, so maybe an extended version exists.

Synkronized - Supersonic

At first, this track didn't appeal to me at all. It had a lot of harsh and abrasive sounds. Again, like with TWM, I suddenlly LOVED this song when I heard it on a really nice car stereo system. It just clicked. I was amazed by it, and now this is practically my favorite track from Synk next to Canned Heat. Incidentally, I like every single remix done for Supersonic as well.

A Funk Odyssey - Stop Don't Panic

I didn't care for this track at first, because it was... hmm, not quite like the jamiroquai I was used to, I suppose. My favorite part is the chorus. It has a nice mellow sound. I will say this about AFO in general..... I feel like the production could've been done better. When I listen to AFO in one sitting my ears feel kind of fatigued.... like I'm listening to a wall of sound. I hate that, and it's very common on modern pop albums. For some reason the producer, Al Stone, was dropped from this album, and I think the sound production on this album would've benefited from his input.

Dynamite - Black Devil Car

Jamiroquai does electro rock... mmm. I think it's a decent song now. I like the instrumental version more, I think. Again, the sound production on the album needs work, imo. It's very upfront... like a wall of sound, which will fatigue your ears and mind. I still wonder why JK dropped Al Stone. It was probably related to the low sales of Synk. He was a grade A sound producer, and I really hope the 2010 album has good sound production.

High Times - Radio

I liked Runaway instantly, while Radio grew on me. Now I like Radio more than Runaway. My favorite part is when the song hits the first chorus. I love the keyboard work, especially. It's so mellow, and it reminds me of summer. I'd love it, if they made an entire song with that sort of laid back sound. I also liked the tiny addition of scratching. Along with horns, they should reincorporate scratching. Always liked it.

Sorry, I guess I have to play the game aswell.

If there is a whole album into which I grew, it's "A Funk Odyssey".

At the first few listens, I was quite sceptic, but after some listens more I actually began to like it!

But "Dynamite", it was just the other way around. First I was enthousiastic but then I felt this album to be quite lame! Mamma mia!!! The only song I really like on it is "Starchild" and a bit "Feels just like it should" too.
But the rest of the album Rolling Eyes, especially songs like "Loveblind" and "Electric Mistress" are awful!!!

A Funk Odyssey is saved by Corner Of The Earth and Black Crow. Those are the only two songs I can listen to in repeat.
It is currently my least favorite album.

With Dynamite, it's happening the same Ophone just said. I think is over-produced. I hear machines, not instruments. Is hard to describe. The almost 'perfect' sound of the instruments takes me away from the song.

EOPE: Whatever It is I just Can't Stop.

TROTSC: Morning Glory

TWM: You are My Love

SYNK: Destitute Illusions and the whole album! It's amazing! Fresh and funky, unfortunately underrated!

AFO: Corner Of the earth (but the tempo in the live at Verona is better)

DYN: Hot tequila Brown

Anymay, the Ophone and Diego's comments are very interesting and deserve a whole topic! I'm going to do it!

I will pick one from each album:

EOPE - If I Like it, I Do it - I used to skip it when I was like 9 years old and just getting into the band. I think as I grew older and more mature, this song became so much more appealing to me and it an absolutely brilliant song. Now I feel guilty for skipping it!

ROTSC - Manifest Destiny - Again I think this comes from an age thing. I didn't really get this song when I was younger. Now I really appreciate it and think it is a sensational song.

TWM - this is the album that first got me into the band and I honestly don't have a song on this album that I overlooked or that grew on me. It was INSTANT! And more importantly, I have grown tired of none of it! Truly amazing album.

Synk - Supersonic - When I first got the album (bearing in mind I was only about 12), I just couldn't get my head around Supersonic. It was just so different to me as a Jamiroquai fan. As I have grown to like dance music and to go out and dance and things, this song is now a top tune in my ears! Love it!

AFO - Corner of the Earth - I think because it was sandwiched inbetween the funky collection of Feel So Good, Little L, YGMS and Love Fool, I just didn't give it a chance and wanted to the upbeat vibe to continue. It was only when it was released as a single and I actually sat and listened to it properly, that I realised how much of an incredible song it was!

Dynamite - Hot Tequila Brown - I thought initially that this song was a bit too basic for a band of Jamiroquai's ability. Like the same simple bassline all the way through and no real complex musical changes that we are used to. But I listen to it now and I think that is kind of the beauty of it in that Jamiroquai don't do many songs like that! Great chill out tune Smile

Can't wait for the new album now! Very Happy
