Juliet, Naked - a funny novel about fan sites
Hello,
I know we have a book topic but this IMHO crosses the boundaries of cool books you suggest to read. Juliet, Naked is Nick Hornby's new novel, maybe you already know this guy for other great books like High Fidelity or Fever Pitch. There are lots of funny stories that remind me to some of our behaviours here that could look insane by people
It's a story of a couple splitting up and he's a great fan of a musician that stopped to make music since 20 years. But as we all know you can't stop the internet and hardcore fans are gathering on forums and communities trying to get the bootlegs of all the gigs, building strange theories about the personal life of this singer, trying to stalk him...
The don't split up because he's a fan but somehow looks like it has something to do with it, all their life has to do something about that, they even plan vacations on places where something happened related to the musician (The first words of the novel are really awesome but I don't want to spoil )
It's really funny and the plot made me laugh many times
Cheers,

I finished the book today. When I first started reading I feared that I won't get this "Nick Hornby feeling" by reading it in English instead of German - but it went better and better I like this book very much, the description of the hard core fans on the fanboard is so lively and ironic - I bet Nick Hornby himself is so into music that he writes in fanboards himself
Thank you Rinaldo for recommending this book - I had some funny hours with it
But I sure will read it in German some time!! |

Thanks for the feedback Konni, isn't the housebreaking scene funny?
It reminded me of people standing outside of Jay's home _________________ I once had a 10 years of Travelling Without Moving celebrations banner here... |
