(I've Been) Hurtin'
Just posted this on funkin. I'm sure there'll be plenty of talk about this!

Dutch Radio 6 programme GielJazz played a new track from Rock Dust Light Star on their show on Saturday night (25 September).
I've Been Hurtin' (or probably just Hurtin' based on the album tracklist and not biographical text) was played shortly after 51 minutes into the show, which can be streamed online. If you have trouble listening to the stream I was able to listen to it using VLC media player. If not, it'll only be a matter of hours before it's ripped and uploaded somewhere else!

In the Jamiroquai biography for the album it says...
...I've Been Hurtin' (Led Zep riffs meets Donny Hathaway vibes), both showcase a new side of Kay's voice. The recording..., a brilliantly minimal song, with electric guitar and electrifying voice trading licks, "was the classic half-a-bottle-of-Scotch, 60-fags-at-two-in-the morning job. It works!"
Yup, I have to agree, Jay does sound like he's had half a bottle of Whisky and 60 cigarettes on this one! |

So so.
Nice riffs, weird JK voice.
Was definetely expecting something more groovy from RDLS, but looks like it's gonna be a non-constant-genre album. _________________ "Sit, back, kick that switch and hyper zoom!" |

i was so happy, i forgot to say: THANK YOU DAVID
'i´ve been hurtin' has finished here and my oppinion is:
you have to open your mind to enjoy this song. because you will say: "what? where´s the funk? where´s the brass? and blah blah blah!
but it is a really great song, where the band walks on a different way, never seen before! and that is why i am loving the new album.
go jamiroquai! _________________

WOW! Never ever expected something like this!! But it's cool!!! Wierd voice of Jay... this is an interesting journey they wanna take us on. I am so damn curious about the album now!!! I expect lots of more surprises and different songs. I just feel sorry for those who cannot open their minds to something different...

i think the description from the biography about this song is spot on
jay's voice kinda sounds similar to FJLIS
After just one listen, I'm already digging the song..it has this classic rock vibe to it and seems like a heartbreak song (just without the mushy stuff) _________________ I think it’s time to find a new religion |

Could it be that the title "Rock Dust Light Star" represents in a way the different types of music of the tracks?
I mean, we have some Rock, now some Dust in Hurtin', ... what is Blue Skies? Maybe "Light"? ....
So far the album seems to be a colourful mixture of different styles.
I remember Matt and Pauls comments once, when I was talking to them about the album, during the writing process: I always got to hear: it's very different, but great! You'll like it! |
