The meaning of Travelling Without Moving
Can anyone direct me to some videos or interviews where Jay possibly talks about the meaning behind the song TWM? I mean you can infer, but I was wondering what he has to say on the matter. Also, does an instrumental version exist? Thanks. |

I read somewhere that Jay and a friend of his were driving in one of his cars, and they were moving so quickly that according to his friend, it felt like they were "travelling without moving"... and that's that. |

I've read/seen interviews with Jay explaining the meaning, and he seems to invent a new meaning for this song each time.
Here's one version:

(starts at 4:47)
Here's another version:

(right from the beginning of the interview)
I also heard that the expression was borrowed from 1984 film "Dune". Quoting Wikipedia: "In Dune, the technique used by the Guild Navigators to fold space is referred to as travelling without moving". |

There was a writer from the XX. century, who wrote a book with the title "Travelling Without Moving". (Unfortunately I don't remember now, who was it)
Funny, but my teacher mentioned to the class that it's also a title of a Jamiroquai album _________________ "If it doesn’t sound good with just a keyboard and a voice or a guitar and a voice, drop it.” /Jay Kay/ |

Every time I have heard J talk about ROTSC, he talks about how his head was getting too big and he was way off track so he had to plant his feet back down into reality. Hence, the return of the space cowboy _________________ www.jahcoustic.com |

What 'Travelling Without Moving' is about?
It's all about making cars hover as opposed to going forward on two wheels with an internal combustion engine. Cars could hover off the forces that are already there, the earth's magnetic forces or some other kind of force. Finding technical ways to balance our technology and nature. Put the two together and make the world a better place. Put the silly religious quibbles and racial quibbles aside and try and teach our children what's right and what's wrong. |
Good to see how some original philosophy is still there:
Balance the Earth
Religion & race Equality
Teach our children |
