Good movies from 2000 to 2010
I'm not going to the cinemas regularly anymore, so I lost a bit what's happening in the movie world these last years.

Could you recommend me some films of the last years?
I'm usually more keen on good "lower budget" films, than Hollywood blockbuster, unless these last are very very good.

Thank you in advance!

I recomend you, an excelent argentinian movie "The secret in their eyes" (el secreto de sus ojos) oscar winner. A very good (kind of independent) film is "before sunrise", of course if you want a good trhiller you have "training day" (there you have two with ethan hawke). Now i know you dont like the hollywood big budget movies, but a must see is of course, "the Departed" of the great Martin Scorsese. If you like science fiction, and you dont mind a korean film, you have "the host".
Now a more independent kind of option is "Baghead" is a kind of horror/comedy film, very good, you get to be scared in some points. A good horror movie is REC (but the spanish version), if you like horror movies that one is a must see.
Well i hope this could help you a little bit.

You don't tell which genre of movies you prefer. So I'll just give you a couple of recommendations with different flavours. I really don't know what qualifies as a low budget movie. But I'll list some that didn't cost anywhere near as much as 'Avatar' to make. But to a common wage slave as myself it's still fortunes spent.

If you haven't seen 'Slumdog Millionaire' ($15mn budget) you really should. It's a damn fine movie!

The movie 'Machete' ($25mn budget) is another good one. Very violent. Sparked some debate because of what some consider is a touchy subject.

I would also like to recommend 'Gran Torino' ($33mn budget). Great movie with and directed by Clint Eastwood. Aged, but still tough as Harry Calahan... maybe for the last time on the big screen.

I have a soft spot for stoner movies so if you're up for some cheap laughs I must recommend 'Pineapple Express' ($25mn budget). It's pretty much what you can expect from a stoner movie... immature, lowbrow humour with loads of verbal scatology and some pretty goofy characters getting involved in situations they shouldn't be in. It's not Oscar's material. But no one would expect that from an action filled pot comedy in the first place.
