Hi fellas!

Which song from the new album you consider a good choice for a new single release to continue the promotion of the new album?

(I added the bonus tracks cause you may consider one of them a good choice too, though bonus tracks are rarely selected to become singles)

AGITH has a great single potential for me.

I think they should make a new video also.

I voted for Hang it Over! I love it and just think that it would so much fun if that was released as a single! Very Happy (Not that I expect it to be of course!)

That's a tricky question!

Although I love... humm, no.. WORSHIP... "She's a Fast Persuader'', I don't know if it'd make a good single... I did vote for it here, but I honestly don't know... In the UK they're always implying that JMQ repeat themselves (a comment I find unfair) and SAFP does sound like classic JMQ. So I'm not really sure.

I imagined WKR (which also sounds like classic JMQ) would reach the UK top 20 easily, but it almost didn't make the top 40 (it peaked at # 39)!! Maybe a different sounding song would be a better choice? Who knows?

That said, SAFP seems to be a track that just about EVERY fan adores... I honestly don't recall any other track being that popular in such a short period of time. It's really quite impressive. From the minute the 30-second snippets were first made available, most people immediately selected it as a stand-out track!

For me, the best songs shouldn't be released as singles, but rather stay as little gems when people buy the album. So, She's a Fast Persuader and Hey Floyd definetely NOT.

I think Goodbye To My Dancer could be a good follow up. Or Smoke and Mirrors. And Hang It Over should be interesting.

Aren't singles supposed to promote the album? Singles exist to make people interested in buying an album, right? If that's so, then shouldn't an artist release the very best songs precisely to get people interested in the album?

I'm not questioning you; just asking, ok?

well, what I think is that singles must be the kind of tune most people will like and not those who will only appreciate the fans.

fast Persuader is the kind of tune we as jamiroquai fans love, but I doubt it will make a good position in the charts

All Good In The Hood can be the next single.
In a french advertising for RDLS http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EVH9PfEGYzE we can see a part of a new video (is it a new video ? Confused ) and I think this part could be a video for AGITH !!!
Finally well it is just a supposition... Laughing

Yes, but didn't you hear the saying 'save the best for last?'.
I don't think an artist should release the very best songs to promote an album.

WOW!

If that first part (a new video!?) is indeed a video for AGITH, then you're a genius! Very Happy I could barely see a video, let alone imagine the song!!! Wink

I think that two completly different things could be a good single. I mean it has that Nice relaxing feeling that seven days have and also that stillness in time kind of old vibe, and its catchy as Hell!

The problem is that cds fade much faster these days... Their life span is much shorter nowadays... Long gone are the days when someone like Michael Jackson could release 7 (seven!) singles from a 10 track album and have top ten hits with every one of them...
This doesn't happen anymore. Many artists only release 2 or 3 songs from their albums and that's it.

Also, with the internet, you just can't keep the mystery anymore. Once a cd is out, there are a million ways of getting it for free, whether the band likes it or not. And you can download (legally too, of course) just the songs you like. In the past you were forced to buy a whole album just to get a non-single track. Nowadays you buy what you want, whether it's a single or not. By the time the artist finally releases that killer track, chances are you'll already have it in your computer/mp3 player.

There's also something else. Singles are quite boring these days. I loved the good old days when they came with new songs! Nowadays you have 3 million remixes of the single, most of which are incredibly boring and uninspiring. Record companies complain that no one is buying singles anymore, but why should we?

That's why I feel the best should be released straight away. There's no time to waste. By the time a third or fourth single is out, it's very rare to see them outsell the first two singles. They tend to do poorly, simply because the songs on the cds aren't novelty anymore.

Just my point of view! Very Happy
