Review - SECC, Glasgow 20/4/2011
Rock Dust Light Star Review

The SECC atmosphere was immense and rife with high energy at the final gig of the live European tour of Jamiroquai’s seventh studio album. This was the first Jamiroquai gig I’ve been to and it’s been one of the best experiences of my life, I even managed to get a position in far right of the front row.

The supporting act Lucie Silvas came on at 7.30pm a talented musician that played 4 tracks from her up and coming album.

At 8.45pm the lights go out, the stage curtain drops and the band starts up with Rock Dust Light Star. At first I was slightly star-struck seeing Jay and the rest of the band, as would many when seeing musicians they’ve enjoyed for almost 20 years. The new arrangements of the classic tracks ranging from 1994-2011 sound incredible with every song having a high energy feeling in them. Jamiroquai sound even better live than they do on the CDs..

My favourites from the show are Canned Heat, Cosmic Girl, Love Foolosophy and Space Cowboy. The latest renditions of these blew me out of this world with the horns and bass just adding to the goosebumps-down-the-spine effect. The highlights of the show for me were Love Foolosophy and Space Cowboy, everybody got carried away, including Jay. Towards the end of Love Foolosophy Jay came along to the far right of the stage around 3-4 metres in front of me so me and the guy next to me gave Jay a thumbs up with a smile and very quick point in response.

The show ended at 10.45pm with the encore of White Knuckle Ride. The set list appeared to be the same as the Manchester gig, as follows:

Rock Dust Light Star
Main Vein
Cosmic Girl
Smoke & Mirrors
You Give Me Something
Lifeline
Little L
Canned Heat
Deeper Underground
Space Cowboy
Love Foolosophy
Travelling Without Moving
Scam Intro
All Good In the Hood
Alright
Encore: Feels Just Like It Should
White Knuckle Ride

The set looked very funky with screens at the back displaying different scenery for each individual track. There was also great colourful lighting and a mobile planetarium on the ceiling.

Overall, the best concert I’ve ever been to and I’d definitely love to see Jamiroquai live again.

The glasgow show was fantastic! right up front the whole time, a few plonkers behind me tried to ruin space cowboy by elbowing me the whole time for my prized spot dead centre on the fence but they got put straight!
