Two differents JK
I´ve been thinking about that this morning, while I was watching the video of Rappers Delight (live club citta 93´). I´m not gonna talk about that the music has changed in all this years, but today´s jay kay has nothing to do with the young one. It´s something with his mooves... I can´t explain it, but it´s like he has loosed the magic... like if he is now a little bit tired of all the music stuff.
I though the same when I was watching the Live in London Video (94`?) for the first time.
Of course jamiroquai is still the best band of the world, but if you see one of this videos and then an actual one, you´ll see what I´m talking about. |

mmm... you mean like... I don´t understand much, but it might be that he is older now. Is that what you think? |

No. It´s like he´s tired of doing music now, like if he has loose some kind of energy.

I partly agree with you Snorry - but on the Verona DVD it's totally diffrent. Maybe it's because of the great audience but Jay looks really happy to perform.
I can't help thinking that it is because of his cocaine problem. It cannot be the same if you just smoke some dope or if you are really on drugs. But that's just my opinion I really don't know

I think that regardless of the fact that jay has lost enthusiasm, he will never cease to give us the great music we all know him for...
he may be becoming more mature, and of course, money gets to all of us at some point, however do not lose hope...jamiroquai have still got a LOT of things to come... _________________

Hi everyone, sorry I hadn't posted in ages, I've been... erm.. away
Anyway to get on with the topic - yes, I have noticed this some time ago already. Surely, JK is changing. Just look at it from his side. He's been in business more than 10 years. OK, a business that most people dream of, but still, it must lose its charm. It must become routine, at least performing a set of tracks over and over.

Absolutely. I have a friend who is, well, a "regular" user of coke (and pills). He says himself that you almost lose the will to live. It changes you into another person. It makes you not care. I can't help but see a similarity here with JK - just look at TZO for example. |

Yeah, thats exactly my impression - that he doesn't care. Not for himself and not for his friends. But thats only an impression - I can only tell from photos or interviews. Actually I don't know him and how he behaves in every day life.

Hi Jamirotalkers
I think JK is older, but that´s for sure. And I have to agree with Serge about performing the same set of tracks (example: High Times, Travelling Without Moving). But is a good thing to hear him in Butterfly. I love the live recording of that track in Pori and Montreux.
Plus, some say that when you are on drugs you make the best music (Space Cowboy.. maybe an example?) but there´s the risk of loosing his voice.
The next album will Blow Our Minds! (hopefully).
Bye Bye. |

Hi people!
Sure, drugs must give you inspiration. But apart from the risk of losing your voice, its the mind that they change. I'm not giving anyone a lecture or anything, I'm just saying I know what happens to people (and refer back to my friend)
And I loved the Pori '03 performance of Butterfly! |

You are right. But the best artists of all times had drugs as a thing to give them inspiration: Shakespierre, Quevedo, the beatles, Miguel de Cervantes, etc...
And JK has tried EVERYTHING (he said it in an interview).
I think that drug is a very important part of jamiroquai music, so if he quits something oviously is going to change.
Anyway, as John Lennon said- You can admit it or not, but something in your brain changes one you are on dope. |

Oh it definitly does! Probably why I do so crap in exams. And I agree with what you say. Drugs are an important part of Jamiroquai's music. But its the drugs that could destroy JK as we know him. |

Mm... I think drugs are the inspiration for JK. But we can´t allow him to do that. Like you said, Serge, drugs are going to destroy the J we know. |
