Obscure Albums Worth Checking Out
Recommend obscure or rare albums worth checking out!!

I'm learning about a number of albums that have some really good songs on them, however many of them are only available on vinyl & those that did get a CD release are extremely expensive or difficult to find, because they're out of print.

Other times, it's just a matter of obscurity.

Genre doesn't matter.

One from my collection:
James Mason - Rhythm of Life
Sweet Power - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_BQLsiZp80
Mbewe - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d0ArhrYffyg
Free - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_vKCD9DMZrI
I really enjoy this album. It's easy to listen all the way through it. All the songs are worth checking out. It's easy to find, just not well known. I think it's up on itunes as well.

Some recent discovers:
Johnny Harris - Movements
http://www.discogs.com/Johnny-Harris-Movements/release/2000483
Stepping Stones - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8CesVCBTg4
Movements also has a few covers, including one by the Beatles.

Final Solution - Brotherman
http://www.discogs.com/Final-Solution-Brotherman-Original-Motion-Picture-Soundtrack/master/206388
A blaxploitation soundtrack commissioned for a film that never got off the ground.
Theme From Brotherman - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sOr-p_t7P4Y

You can listen to samples of all the tracks here:

If I can add to your list, a recent discovery of mine is this one:

Kitty Winer/Gypsy Niva - Limelight Suite

Only track I can find on YT is this ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4QQPfVqIefw

But some of the stuff on here is seriously quirky and funky! I recently acquired the album in digital form. It's super rare on vinyl and never got a CD release.

A couple more I can add are:

George Duke - Liberated Fantasies
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gJ1GasVnF9w

Fanfair - Gothem Odyssey
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zlAkOGX1rHo

Oh, and since I only just found out, and I'm a little shocked by the news - RIP Tenna Marie. Gone but never forgotten ... : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=38S1uaz3Pow

Nice. Very enjoyable track. I guess I'll look for a download.

I really like this track!! The uploader misspelled the name of the artist, which is Fanfare, though. Reallly nice find.

I don't listen to Tinna Marie much, but she had a quality voice and a talented singing ability. She really died young.

Re: Obscure Albums Worth Checking Out
Within the past week I came across another album that can best be described as a fusion of rock & jazz with hints of other elements. I'm not sure if the album has been remastered yet, but the reissued CD is on Amazon for a fairly cheap price.

It's the self titled album: Jan Akkerman
I think these are my favorite tracks from the album:

Streetwalker - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KJ7iKVpFCH4
Angel Watch - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yN1efgz9nI0

Here's another good one:

Music by Liquid Spirits

The album was only released in the Netherlands, I believe. So it's a little hard to come by.

Check out these tunes on youtube:

Holy crap people, you gotta check this out!!

SAPPHIRE Rare Private Modern Soul Boogie Funk LP

The page has 5 samples you can play, and they all sound amazing. Also, this record went for $1,855.00, so it's pretty damn rare. It really needs a CD release.

By the way, I eventually found a very cheap copy of Movements by Johnny Harris on CD, and I just got it and gave it a listen today.

People, this whole album is... FIRE

Some of the playing on these tracks is just incredible. The arrangements are top grade too. Gonna put this whole bad boy on the U tube.
