Gil Scott-Heron passed away
One of the fathers of black music, soul, funk and blues.
One of the fathers of Jamiroquai (there are several covers made by the band in the 90´s).
One of Jay´s favorite musicians (I believe he mentioned he would love to work with Gil in some recent interview).
One of my favorite musicians.
Rest in piece.

Mrs Bee, his work is so vast, you have to discover for yourself ..
One of my favorites is "we almost lost detroit"

Another very old jamiroquai cover, "The bottle" (1993)

No prob Ms. Bee.
Feel kind of sad though that Jay dedicated a song to Amy Winehouse - sad loss of course - but I can not understand how he payed tribute to a manufactured singer with a few years career and not said one word about the one and only Mr Heron, the king of neo soul and funk music and one of the fathers of jamiroquai. _________________ Away from soliloquies of sadness

You really got me there. I myself don't know what to say as I don't understand either. _________________ www.funkfiction.com |

Well, my theory is that probably Jay realized a while ago that music is marketing and business, and paying tribute to pop idols pays a lot more attention in the media rather than funk legends. _________________ Away from soliloquies of sadness

Well, we can pay homage to an artist privately.
But definitely, Amy's death got more publicity.
Amy, manufactured or not, sang from a deep soul. So much potential. |
