Tallulah has TWO TEMPOS!!
...Not really, but read on...
I've tried to make a Talullah (or is it "Tallulah?") capella, using a feature in Audacity ("invert", to be precise). I wasn't able to do anything, BUT I did notice one thing! The album version of T is a slightly faster recording than the Dyna instru CDR version
(Top: Dyna instru CDR version
Bottom: Album version)
What's really bothering about this is that that happens not just with this one song, but with all the other songs fournd on DICD-R.
What can I say about this? Nothing, really, aside from the fact that the master tapes used to store the info were played at different speeds, probably in different machines, too! |

Interesting.
I remember I noticed something like that with 'Electric Mistress'. The version the radio played a few months before the original release, was slighty faster than the album version.

But whenever JMQ is on the radio it always sounds faster. Someone told me they speed songs up slightly so they can fit more into their set. Maybe thats wrong I'm not sure... _________________ May the wind always be at your back, and the sun upon your face...

Yeah that's the obvious deduction from that image, though that difference may be just at the beginning, where they are close enough, and then "build up" and be a more obvious phaseout in the long run. _________________

...Nno-- I've checked practically every sample in the song. Both of the songs start at the very same sound sample. I wouldn't have posted this topic if it weren't like that. Not just that, but the more one listens into the song, the more the Talullah instru starts to lag... I'm serious! |

Yeah i think this is definitely true with some stations although its blatantly obvious! i listen to Q radio and the version of Cosmic Girl that they always play is definitely faster than the album version! _________________ 'This is the world he wants, pray for the brave and the young...' |

[Hello, fellow jamily members,]
I think I do know the reason for this difference in speed - master tapes. The tapes had to be read twice in order to get two different versions. And it seems that the two versions we got were actually read from the tapes in different rooms with different temperatures. Master tapes are usually very... Erm... Huge. The width of a master tape can sometimes even reach four inches!! (8+ centimeters) You know what's so interesting about that? This: Many objects expand in heat, and contract in cold, especially metals and their respective oxides. It might be pretty much the same with tapes. Most tapes' tapes are coated with AlO (aluminium-oxide), and there's not a big difference with master tapes, as they also use an oxide, but a one more stable to demagnetisation.
What I'm implying here is that the vocal and instrumental mixdowns were done in rooms with different temperatures. The vocal versions of all songs on Dynamite were downmixed in a somewhat chilly room, resulting in contraction of the tape, and a slight speedup of the tracks themselves. A polar opposite happened with the instrumental mixes, which were done in a hot room. The heat made the oxides on the tape expand in length, resulting in a song slowed down. |

Yeah, that could be, supposing they didn't use digital tapes. I'd prefer to believe they did, look at Revolution 1993 or Didgin' Out. That is corrupted digital data. _________________

The radio play we got for Electric Mistress and Seven Days were definitely faster, but I had always attributed it to the way it was recorded from the radio. They're also pitched higher. I found out because I actually liked the slightly higher pitched Seven Days version better, so I sped it up just a tad and, of course, it came out higher pitched too. |
