Discovering Quality House Music
Lately I've been captured by some house tracks and I started to discover this music style (I always thought it was just crappy noisy stuff) thanks to Hed Kandi compilations.
After noticing some Jamiroquai and Incognito remixes on those I bought some discs of the Disco Heaven series and realized some tracks were turning me on like:
MAW presents India - To Be in Love (Knee Deep Re-Edit)
ATFC feat. Inaya Day - Mine (Vocal Mix)
Rasmus Faber - Ever After
* from Disco Heaven 01.04
I guess every old school jamiroquai fan would love those tracks. AFAIK this is the so called soulful house of funky house but really I'm still learning and trying to understand more on this so I may be wrong.
Then on the Disco Heaven 01.05 I would choose:
Shawn Christopher - You Can Make It (Jamie Lewis Classic Mix)
Secret Sounds - Come Back Home
Soul Rebels feat. Lisa Millet - I'll Be Good (Soul Rebels Club Mix)
* from Disco Heaven 01.05
Then I tried some Defected compilations, Defected In The House series, listening to the samples I found out that the Eivissa 2005 was good (some great tracks but I also don't like many) and realized that Defected uses a lot of latin house stuff (think about MAW and rlated artists...) but some of my favourite house tracks come from their compilations. Just some examples:
The last french side Bob Sinclar (Love Generation, Soundz of freedom) and Martin Solveig (Jealousy, Everybody) singles. Quite famous stuff.
Another Day (Fanatix Remix) - Kings Of Tomorrow (!!!!! )
Time (Take Time Dub) - Copyright feat. Imaani (Incognito's vocal player)
With Him (Jay-Jay Original Mix) - Jay-J
The Way (Jay-J's Shifted Up Mix) - Lenny Fontana
Swimming Places (Original Mix) - Julien Jabre
from Defected In the House International 2
I remember when I was in Ibiza in 2000 there was a hit single called Astrotrax - It's Over
that blew my mind thanks to the great bass line and it was one of the first singles on the Defected label:

Those are just examples from some of the compilations I have but many more stuff is available and I'm trying to discover a record label that fits exacly what I like form this style.
I can't actually say which are my favourite Djs because I just like some of their tracks but maybe I'll post here a list of them.
Now I'm listening to the album Fabric 04 of the NYC Dj Tony Humpries and I like it, there's quality stuff inside.
This is the real problem with House, a lot of tracks are too easy , the kind of easy that bores even after 3 minutes of listening... _________________ I once had a 10 years of Travelling Without Moving celebrations banner here... |

Thanks for these recommendations. I will check them out.
I have just gotten into house myself. I always thought it was like rave, techno type music, so I left it alone.
It wasn't until a few months ago that I discovered more soulful house and have been listening ever since. I still can't digest typical thump thump house, but I'm gaining more of an appreciation for it.
MAW I really dig. I guess because they incorporate instrumention and manipulate the vocals with many tracks.
One of my favorite house tracks that I can think of off hand is 'In Time' by Jazzy Jeff and MAW.
Anyway, back to work.
Thanks again! _________________ www.dee34.wordpress.com |

Oh okay.
I don't buy house music really and can't see myself buying a whole CD of it ever.
I usually get the music from a CD trading group I am part of.
Some suggestions:
I like Elephantis - the Brand New Heavies Funky House Remix CD. It has about 20 or so tracks. So, if you like the BNH, check that out.
My favorite on there is Dans Groove Part 1 remix of 'Shelter.'
Another house track that I love is Osulande and Erro - Change for Me. It is on Osulande's Yoruba Soul Sessions. That whole CD has some great house music on it. I really, really love 'Change for me'
Hmmm..another CD I dig is Vikter Duplaix's DJ Kicks...great Lady Alma and 4 Hero mix on there and some others.
DJ Spinna and DJ Rich Medina both do house mixes that may be worth looking into also.
Oh, and Giant Step just sent me this mix, which I really dig. Too bad the track I love - 'If I Pray' isn't available to listen to, but check out the others. It's a bit mellow, but definitely has some house hints in it..

'Palace Lounge Presents Cafe d'Afrique Vol. 3'
Let's see...I also get a lot of house music/suggestions from 2 internet radio shows, which are Eavesdrop and Grooveline, so maybe you can listen to them and see what else is out there.
Eavesdrop - http://www.jamirotalk.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6365&highlight=eavesdrop
Grooveline - http://www.jamirotalk.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5249&highlight=grooveline
I hope these suggestions help a bit. _________________ www.dee34.wordpress.com |

The first track So Far feat. LT is great! Cool bass line and synths...
Quote: |
The album finds Migs meandering into the old school funk and soul side of the dance music spectrum focusing on his trademark high caliber production and tasteful songwriting. “Make Things Happen” and the title track are filled with classic Migs sounds – funky beats, guitar hooks, and vocals by longtime collaborator Lisa Shaw.

DJ Gregory, Dimitri from Paris, Benjamin Diamond, Alan Braxe, Spirit Catcher are all really good house producers. |

Yeah, I did! I downloaded them before leaving for holidays, the 02 is on my desktop right now on the right, I still haven't found the time to listen to it carefully. Will do it soon and let you know for sure, the preview is great, looks like exactly what I'm looking for! _________________ I once had a 10 years of Travelling Without Moving celebrations banner here... |

I'm going to check out those links too...thanks CJ.
Edit - just checked out the playlists briefly and see you have Peven Everett on there - beautiful. I'm going to add you at MySpace too. Thanks so much again!
Awhile ago, I heard Hardsoul and Ron Caroll's 'My Life' and I just got around to getting it properly, and I went to their MySpace and really dig 'Don't Let Love Weigh You Down', so I'm going to check out some other stuff by them.

Cheers Rinaldo for the recomendations.
Im enjoying House & dance music at the moment too and even electro.
Another great album you can't miss is the MAW - Nuyorican soul - fantastic with Runaway ft India. New projects on the horizon with that collaboration too.
Also our old friends 'The Shapeshifters' with their disco & house rythms combined with funky baselines. Check out their myspace for new tracks - Pusher & New Day or PM for links to mixes.
I think the best of the year are 'Groove Armada' who never fail to impress me with their versatility and range of dance music which is non-offensive and pure - incorporating all styles.
Definately own - Soundboyrock and check out their mix album of this years Lovebox weekender(PM Me )
I Only wish i could of got a ticket for Bestival this year! _________________
