Is this Jamiroquai?
http://www.zshare.net/audio/26154508fbaa32/

You can just let this stream rather than downloading. *note: a few bad words in the song*

This song is Talib Kweli's "Beautiful Struggle" On the chorus of it is a guy who sounds JUST like Jamiroquai. But I can't find any information to confirm this. It's not in the liner notes (according to someone who has them).

Anyone know who this is or anything?

So please excuse me while I laugh (yeah)
No one can change your ways (rock with me for a second)
No one can lead you off your path (come on)
You'll try to change the world
So please excuse me while I laugh

Hi Jazzysoul -

I am pretty certain that is not Jay on the track. I'm not sure who it is, but with Hi-Tek on production, it is a good chance that is a sample. The version I have oddly enough doesn't have the title track on it, so I can't look and see if it is a sample.

It sounds a bit more vintage Motown soul to me, which Jay in my ears has never sounded like.

I could be wrong, but I'd lean on the side of no.

I asked my friend who loves Kweli, so if you don't get the answer by the time I get it - I'll post it up.

Thank you Deesh. Someone told me before that according to the liner notes that it didn't have whoever was on it. This was on a Kweli board.

I played it for my boss and he said it sounded like Jay Kay. And after listening to it I thought the voice did sound kinda like him.

I just wish I could find out who it was. I love that hook.

Was that on the Okayplayer board?
If it wasn't, I'll ask the question there and see if I get the answer or the Giant Step boards.
I'm thinking if it was a sample, it may not say who sang it, just what the song is.
I love that hook too actually. That song was one of the highlights off the album, along with the Mary and Res songs.
If it is Jay, then that is new news to me, but in the world of hip-hop, anything is possible. Smile

I was also thinking...if that was Jay, he was under contract at the time BS came out, so I'm thinking legally it would have to say 'Jay Kay appears courtesy of Sony Records' or some jibberish like that.

on the Kweli boards when I asked, the guy that said it wasn't in the liner notes said that they were both on the same label at the time. You WOULD think it would be in the liner notes "courtesy of ..."

The only reason I don't think it was a sample was because when I googled the words, the only thing that came up was Talib's song lyrics. It didn't come up for anything else.

Someone on another board said they thought it was Res, but I thought that the singer was a guy, and Res, quite obviously, is not. lol

I dunno. Got me stumped anyway.

I don't know....I think the voices are similar. *shrugs* to each their own, I suppose.
