Radiohead album - Distribution method for new Jamiroquai?
Just heard about this in the news.

Radiohead is apparently letting fans choose to pay whatever they want to download their new album, but is also offering a version of it as a 'hard copy' in stores for a fixed price.

They say its possible because they're out of contract and I guess have the freedom to do whatever they want with their stuff. It also has something to do with artists making the most out of live concerts rather than album sales these days.

Maybe this is an option for Jamiroquai?

I thought of the same thing when I saw this Andy. Radiohead has to have a strong financial backer or have worked out a really good deal with their former label. I think they can count on hardcore fans going out and buying the hard copy anyway for collectible reasons and such...and there are so many of those.

buffaloman_R Hello, buffaloman_R

Smile You are correct in the thinking that Radiohead is out of a contract, they fulfilled their original album deal with EMI after their album "Hail to The Thief" Smile. The real amazing thing is that this ISN'T the first time a high profile artist went out on their own to put out their new material, Prince has done it since "Musicology" by giving away copies of the new album to all of those whom attended his gigs prior to the 1 album deals he signed to get wider release. I think Jamiroquai's deal with AllDiggDown is just one step in Jamiroquai being amongest other big artists, whom had originally depended on big labels to handle their releases/promotional work and so forth, to put out their new material on their own terms, whenever and whereever, other examples of big artists that are off big labels: Oasis, The Verve, Paul McCartney, Joanie Mitchell & others . But Radiohead REALLY raised the original bar by releasing their new material NEXT WEEK, on their own website (http://www.inrainbows.com) , via pay download (EVEN giving the fans the option of what THEY would be willing to pay for the 2nd disc of new material!) & by selfmade discboxes with both discs, a hardbound book, and other goodies. Smile I think this is just the beginning of the future of sellable music, the music back in the total control of the artists INSTEAD of being in the grimy hands of the greedy big labels whom had manipulated them by withholding royalities, selling their music to advertisers without the artist's permission and other industry implicated bullshit. Cheers!

Sincerely,
JamiroFan2000

Which means music will be cheaper in the future, won't it?

I'd do it if I had my own band. It'll be available for everyone who wants it, and those hardcore fans who consider it a holy piece will pay thousands for it. And screw those record labels! Cool
