Just Jack 'Overtones'
Hello talkers
I've bought 'Overtunes' by Just Jack. I heard a little bit each track before I bought it, and I thought it was interesting.
I came across with an interesting mixture of funk, house, jazz, electronica and hip-hop. This guy's voice and rapping is not the best -in fact, I don't like it that much- but the music compensates A LOT.
You can hear a Jamiroquai influence in some songs (specially in 'No Time'), as many reviewers stated in some online pages I've been surfing.
It might be the best new thing I've heard in a while. Is not the best thing ever either. But for me, who doesn't listen 'new music' so much, I guess this is good.
If you don't want to listen the entire album, go for 'Writer's Block', 'Starz In Your Eyes' (I bet you heard this one on the radio and 'No Time'.
I also noticed that some songs start a little bit 'mmmm', but at the end they pay off ('Lost', being an example).
Wow! Long time since I made an album review

I think a few people like him on here, but I can't get into it at all.
I gave it a few chances. Listened to about 5 or so songs and musically, it isn't that bad - I just can't adjust to his vocals or rhyming. Not my thing, but he is making big splashes here in the USA, especially with some internet DJ's I hear playing him.
If anyone wants to hear samples of the album Dyego posted, check four songs out here: http://www.giantstep.net/releases/1527/
You can also listen to some 'Starz In Their Eyes' remixes here: http://www.giantstep.net/releases/1526/
I also can't help think of flamboyant Jack from Will and Grace everytime I hear 'Just Jack' _________________ www.dee34.wordpress.com |

Hey Diego,
i went to see him in Liverpool this year and there band is very tight and professional. It also helps with the vocals from his female colleague(cant remember the name ).
It's a great debut album which i didn't think i would get into as im not really into rapping or MC 'ing which he is known for. The thing that makes it sound so good is the fullness of the production including strings and horns again which we all know is a winning combination. There is also some great work from the bassist too. My favourite is & was 'No Time'
they did a few festivals this year and i captured some of his performances - let me know if you would like any dvd files?

I love the album Overtones by Just Jack - some of the songs are so uplifting and feel good and the blend of funky instrumentation and Jack's rap/sung vocal style really works well!
I also went to the gig in Liverpool and the band was really good live. Jack was a great live performer and was full of energy and interacting with the crowd! Also agree that the presence of his female vocal accomplice helps improve the overall sound.

Overtones is Jack's second album. His debut album, 'The Outer Marker' was released in 2002 and is for me just as enjoyable if not better.
