Have a lovely holiday Inaki with your family.

...and Rinaldo - Funny you say that. I am the opposite. I can't live anywhere permanently, but in a big city. Small towns suck for me! Culture, life and diversity run through my veins and they are usually all three found in big cities Smile When I do Peace Corps or some missions in other countries, I won't mind living in small places, but for the rest of my life? No way! LOL

Sorry Deesha, this was just a statement wrote after a week of bad experiences with flats and agressive dishonest people Sad. All I wanted to say is just that you have to pay more attention in big cities, in Milan there's always somebody that tries to play tricks on you...

It's just a matter of way of life, I've always lived in small towns and tiny cities so I'm having problems handling a so strong way of life, I just need a bit of training.

You're totally right about the amazing things you can have in those big cities, I feel that charm as well, that's why I use to visit them as tourist and New York should be amazing, it's one of the places I'd like to visit more so no way I'm gonna hate it Smile

I understand what you mean, but I guess it is all how you were raised and where. For instance, I feel safer in a big city than I do a smaller town actually. I've also been fortunate and blessed to have nothing ever happen to me in big cities.

Adjusting to a big city is tough. Small towns are intimate and so full of history usually. For me, big cities are full of dishonest people and sometimes rude, but I also have found those people in small towns. Because they have always lived in a small town, I've found some people from them ignorant in culture, race, sex and other things. Not all, but some.

I totally understand what you mean though, and you are more than welcomed in New York..I'm only 90 minutes from there Wink

The most important thing I understand is that I have to pay a constant high attention (as example, pay more attention to the wallet or to the mobile in the underground because when there's a lot of people somebody could rob them)....stuff like that...it needs a lot of energy and I have to get used to it...

Yeah, I can see what you mean. I guess I've been groomed and raised with that awareness, so not that I don't need to still have it, but it isn't extra effort.

I equate what you said to what I experience in small towns. Usually the small towns don't have a high concentrate of black people or even black females, so when I go in a store or something I get watched like I'm going to steal something or do something outrageous because I am a black female from a big city. It happens a lot actually. So that is why I am paranoid or don't like small towns..the stares and assumptions are too much for me. Ignorance is universal. Confused

Yes, that's true. It's just a matter of bad behaviours Sad

So what we can do is try to change it showing that we're here too, there are good people as well in world!

ignorance is universal...but i feel you have only described united states big cities and small towns, full of diverse people in one and full of rednecks in the other.
i have travelled around all europe and north of africa, been in lots and lots of small towns and big cities of so different countrys and overall small towns are much more familiar, safe and friendly than big cities

Not really Inaki from my experience. I have travelled in Canada, Mexico, and Europe - small towns and have experienced this. It is not only in USA towns. You can ask many Black people and they will tell you the same thing. You can even ask people of different religions that live in small towns and they have similar feedback. Not all, but some.

I feel and have felt more safe and more friendly vibes from people in big cities than small towns. Your opinion is different and that is cool. I draw mine from experience.

Big or tiny cities, that is not the question!

I always wonder how you people can live in such huge countries! (Just remember, Luxembourg is 82 km long and 53 km wide ^^) Very Happy
