ROB, PAUL & DERRICK IN CHARITY GIG - 4 APRIL 2008
Hi everyone, I found this article today about a concert Rob, Paul & Derrick will be involved in...
Jamiroquai star in funding concert
06 February 2008
AN all-star cast of musicians, including the guitarist from Jamiroquia and the singer from Brand New Heavies are set to perform a charity gig in St Neots.
Taking place at the Priory Centre, the concert will see a performance by Decoy, which is made up of the guitarist from Jamiroquai, Rob Harris, the base player from Annie Lennox, Paul Turner and the singer from Brand New Heavies, Hazel Fernandez.
Also performing are Sam Grimley, Derrick McKenzie and Soul Patrol.
The concert has been arranged by Joanne and Paul McKnight to help raise the £25,000 they need to allow their son to live as normal a life as possible.
Three-year-old Maxwell McKnight, of Nelson Road, was born with type II spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) - a genetic disorder, which means he will never be able to walk.
SMA primarily affects Maxwell's motor skills, which means he lacks strength to accomplish day-to-day tasks.
It is hoped the concert, which will feature tracks by the Brand New Heavies, will raise the £25,000 needed for home alterations.
There will be a wet room and a downstairs toilet big enough for Maxwell's wheelchair and a through-the-floor lift to enable him access to a bathroom and bedroom.
Launched in June last year, the appeal has already raised £15,800 to purchase a stand-up chair to strengthen Maxwell's upper body and a specially-adapted car with a lifting platform.
Without a lift he has to be carried upstairs by his mother or father.
Mrs McKnight, 36, said: "We do not know if we will get all the money we need but we have our fingers crossed. Any money we raise will help make a difference to Maxwell's life."
The youngster undergoes three hours of physiotherapy a day to help prevent his spine from curling. He also walks 10 metres each day using a Zimmer frame and leg braces.
Despite his being confined to a wheelchair Maxwell's parents say their son just gets on with things. He is even brave enough to understand his condition, saying to his friends that he is not the same as them as his legs "do not work properly".
INFORMATION: Decoy and Soul Patrol will be performing at the Priory Centre on Friday, April 4 from 8pm to midnight. Tickets cost £25 and are available in St Neots from Hong Kong Takeaway, Rock's Noodle Bar, St Neots Carpet Company and Style Guru. Proceeds will go to the Maxwell McKnight fundraising appeal.
The gig is for over 18s only. To book tickets, phone 01480 388922 or to find out more, visit www.maxwellmcknight.org.uk

thanks samantha
great work guys!
i wonder if this is N'dea davenport - lead singer of BNH or Hazel Fernandez or both
it's usually Hazel when the guys do a gig and they are called 'The Funk People' - i think they used Decoy last year but maybe because it's without Sola
also Soul Patrol perform near me - if its the same band? _________________

i only have 1 bass which is a musicman stingray, but i asked rob h if he would kindly ask paul to bring his white musicman 5 string. when he got there he had his white jazz, white mm 5 sting and a natural mm 5 string which he was selling.
the lady in the pic i think was the lady who we where raising the money for her son the band auctioned off some jamiroquai stuff along with some guitars and a ukulele which rob h brought
thanks rob |
