It looks to me like some sort of deal or agreement with Universal WAS made.

Apparently, Universal Music Group and Formula One Administration Limited got together before the F1 season started and put together a thing called F1 Rocks. This means all the concerts after the F1 races will feature artists on Universals books. I'm not sure which artist will be at the upcoming F1GP in China, but The Who who were at the previous one in Melbourne are signed to Universal (actually Polydor which is part of Universal).

Its unlikely Jamiroquai would have done that gig if there was no connection don't you think?

i think that the whole delay with the album release and everything is just because they are negociating with a major label. Thats obvious.

Oh dear.. I was really hoping he wouldnt bother with a big label this time.. Was hoping he would just produce his own stuff and move away from being owned. Shame.

Over main stream media, they have always either had it in for him/them or just not bothered with them at all..

Still cant wait of course Very Happy but lets hope its just all rumour that he is signing up again

Who knows... for all I know it may have been just a one-off agreement with Universal to do the Formula One gig.

In any case, Jamiroquai are massive enough to get their own way no matter who they sign with. It's almost like who they go with doesn't matter, it's the terms of the contract that are the main thing. Jay is a shrewd enough businessman to know what he's doing.

Hiya Andrew Smile

Yep, Im sure he is.. you're right. Hes been around in the music industry long enough to know the score..

But as they are so massive.. surely, they dont need any contract at all. Contract means corporation.. and corporation means control

Oh well, just have to wait and see Smile

Yep, sure. I'm a big fan of doing stuff in-house and independently too, but at the same time, the big companies have the infrastructure in place to support extensive touring, music distribution, and things like that.

I would very-much doubt the terms of the contract would state any form of creative control be relinquished by the band... not at this stage in their career.

It'd be more a case of Jamiroquai making what they want and then shopping it around to whoever can give them the best conditions. That's what I reckon anyway. It's a whole different ball-game for an established artist compared to one just starting out.

hey guys

i found this - an article (posted today) about jamiroquai on sony uk official page:

Quote:
JAMIROQUAI
SUPPORT CAPS AND YOU COULD WIN A CAR!
20/08/2009
Would you like the chance to win a brand new Fiat 500? And, at the same time, help to stop the suffering of animals in circuses and zoos? CAPS, an organisation that Jay Kay supports, is currently working hard to stop the use of performing animals in circuses, find out more here. By purchasing a £2 draw ticket, you will be entered into the Small Car Draw, which is being promoted by the Foundation for Social Improvement. The prize is a Fiat 500, worth around £11,000! For each £2 ticket sold, the Captive Animals' Protection Society (CAPS) will receive £1.90, to help fund their campaigns against animal cruelty in the circus and zoo industries, including undercover investigations. Go to www.captiveanimals.org and click on the car draw link to purchase your tickets and see the competition terms and conditions.

I don't know why you guys are insisting about this Universal Music deal, because everybody knows that the talks were only about their gig at the malaysian grand prix...

Just think better and you will see that Jamiroquai has a recording deal with Columbia wich IS part of the Sony BMG music group, and obviously there is a link...

The band has a record deal with Columbia wich it's details are still undisclosed, and, if there was to happen a change of such importance... surely it would have been announced in their official website (wich wasn't) as it was when they signed to Columbia... We know so far how speculative the european press can be, specially the brittish press, so let's stop running in circles and get it straight... Rolling Eyes

I assumed the only reason they were moved onto Columbia in 2006 was because S2 Records (formerly Sony Soho Square) shut up shop around 2004/05 and Jamiroquai didn't really have a definite label beyond Sony itself at the time. I forget what label Dynamite came out on in the UK - just Sony BMG wasn't it?

I also assumed they finished with Columbia once the whole Sony deal was done and dusted after High Times was over with (or was it after the end of that 'summer remixes' period that seemed to last forever?).

http://funkin.com/news/3565

I really doubt Jamiroquai would have done the F1GP thing if they still had any ties at all to Sony BMG/Columbia. It would be like lending a star football player to the opposition for a match.

Anyhow, not that it really matters - I'm sure we'll find out soon enough when the new stuff comes out...
