TWM, with ROTSC a close 2nd. If only Midnight Funk made Synkronized, then that would be #1. |

With all due respect, but I get a little sick about those "1992-1997 / Stuart Zender times were better" discussions. Those years cover only a third of the time of jamiroquai existence.. Life goes on and everything looks promising, just stop talking about everything used to be better in the past, we look like 80 year olds! Let's look foreward with all that's coming!
Cheers! |

Agree.
I love the old school, but I like the new sounds from today. Not as those of the past, but I still like it.
But I think that It's ok if you don't like the lasts sounds from the band. Those two or three first albums where so pure, so natural... |

My Favorite album is TROTSC followed by EOPE and TWM for second place, and Synkronized and AFO for third with Dynamite at a distant....... fifth.
The thing is, almost all of the tracks on dynamite were pretty good. They just sounded too computerized, and some of the lyrics were kind of dumb. Hot tequila Brown would've been way better without the gun shots for example. The lyrics could've used a little reworking too.
Really, if jay had just done live instrumentation on all dynamites tracks, it would've been a great album. woulda coulda shoulda...
Also, I feel like the quality of jay's voice detracted from some of his later albums, whereas before it enhanced songs. His voice just kept getting weaker and raspier.
Half The Man... really nice and mellow...
Corner of the Earth... excellent song structure... but his voice just isn't quite there. I feel the same way with Picture of My Life... another good song with vocals that don't quite match it... IMO |

As a drummer, I can definately say that the old albums are far better from a percussive point of view. Derrick is still a great drummer from what I can see, but he seems to contribute less and less to each album as they come out. I think he's being seriously stiffled by production. He still plays excellently live though. But he hasn't recorded anything particularly interesting since twm.
To the people that think that jamiroquai still sounds exciting today - I really disagree with you. In terms of concerts, the setlists are incredibly dry and predictable, and more and more the musicians are just a backing band for Jay. Honestly, playing deeper underground and alright at the end of every single concert is terrible. _________________ Bass to jazz.... j-j-j-jazz to bass... |

Totally agree with you at the point that end a concert with Deeper Underground.
And yeah, all the band seems to play for Jay. But they're still great musicians. As a bass player, I can tell that Paul gave the band a new fresh sound. Nick Fyffe seemed to be more like the bass player who played for Jay. But I feel that Paul is more independient. |

You lifted a good point i was waiting for someone to do so.
After AFO and toby's departure, Jay's direct input has become overwhelmingly consistent, and constant into the band, and it has turning the band a bit more bland as the time goes on.
Sincerely, i wish the band had some new fresh stuff, and the band members should have more direct input in the band's direction, we have been lacking it since AFO, wich in my opinion was the band's last strong effort, despite the criticism. _________________ At the speed of cheeba, you and I go deeper... |

Return of the Space Cowboy is still (and may always be) closest to my heart, but as I am just diving back into their music after quite a few years away from it, I cannot cite a favorite. I only heard Dynamite (love it!) and Synkronized for the first time this past week, and I have not heard any of A Funk Odyssey yet.
Yes, it's true- with the exception of the first two albums...well, you remember the first time you heard the others, for the very first time?
I'm going through all of that this week, right now...
Total intetgalactic funky meltdown, I love it! I feel great this week. _________________ "Nikki Giovanni kicks Maya Angelou's ass."

You have a whole lotta catching up to do! Not to mention live shows, and remixes.
