| I think the intention clearly with this track is simply to get back into airplay, get back into the clubs and to the masses, kinda pave the way for the new album. It's a pretty borderline track as some of you already expressed it's got nothing to do to what already been said about the album and what hardcore fans are expecting from them but with this track they just proved again how versatile they are, they can match the current trends but stay the same live band with an iconic sound that they have always been. They not gonna shoot a video for it, the record company is staying on the safe side not taking any risks but to come out with a potential "hit" as they hasn't come out with anything new for 4 years and they're new to Universal too. |
Completely agree with your assessment of WKR, Brother Zsoma, but I dig how it has an ' Canned Heat equalized boogie factor' to it, still, I like it . Anyway, here are the lyrics (at least on what I could make out):
'WHITE KNUCKLE RIDE' LYRICS:
Yeah....gonna make it better
Ooohhh Yeah
Yeah....gonna make it right
Here it is
There's a way to make it better
It gets you down
It's the pressure (pressure)
I'm serious
Trouble genies on the way
Got a little something for ya
It's the pressure (pressure)
For ya
Now it ain't what you know
But I'm giving it away
I can't let this pressure go
There's precious in the steam yeah
CHORUS:
Yeah (White Knuckle Ride)
Gonna Make It Better (White Knuckle Ride, I'm On It Baby)
Ooh Baby
Yeah (White Knuckle Ride)
Gonna Make It Right (White Knuckle Ride, I'm On It Baby)
It's not so easy to control (The Pressure)
It's not so easy to control (The Pressure)
There's always an easy way to make it better
There it is, there it is
Couldn't change it if I wanted
Can taste it all the time, it's the pressure (Pressure)
Yeah hey, oh baby
Say we're two alike [??]
Don't know if I can recover (Don't Know If I Can Recover)
Got me round it's little finger (Got Me By It's Little Finger)
Pressure (Pressure)
Whoa Whoa Whoa there it is
Couldn't change it if I wanted to taste it all the time
So return to life [??]
Don't know if I can recover when I taste it all the time
Taste it all the time yeah
REPEAT CHORUS 2X
Took a White Knuckle Ride Baby
Please feel free to leave proper consensual corrections to the lyrics . Cheers!
Sincerely,

| No video? your kidding? How do you know? For the rest, I agree with you.. |
Universal says the first single is gonna be Blue Skies in November - this track is solely for the radios and DJs. That's why I suppose no video will be shoot for this. |
Every recording contract, even new, ALWAYS have a few annoying wrinkles....but yeah, they couldn't do a video for this one, would be the CG MV all the over again, give or take 2 unintentionally crashed Lamborginis .
Sincerely,
JamiroFan2000
P.S. Pretty weird they would the RDLS promo artwork with the 'WKR' digital single cover, check it out:

Back from 3 weeks holiday...
Listened to the 40 sec clip on youtube a few times when I was on the internet and I must say it excited me. It reminded me of Dynamite and DGHAC. It makes me nervous: new material! I didn't believe it was a remix.
Now I've read all your comments and bought the complete song. 3:35? I remember a quote of Jay (a few years ago) he was tired of Sony: "We have songs of 6-8 minutes and we have to shorten them to 3:30 min songs....!"
Who can explain this? The complete song doesn't impress me at all, only the last chorus. Maybe it has to grow, like Dynamite (the song) did.
One more thought of me (or is it a wish?) which I haven't seen yet I guess. In the past Jamiroquai played 'new' songs on their gigs before the release of the new album. An example is 'A Funk Odyssey' or 'Funky Oddysey' which has been played a few times. It should've been the title track of AFO, but it has never reached the album. Is it possible this can happen to RDLS? RDLS doesn't impress me at much at all...
Let's wait until the complete album will be released. |

Tried to order this this morning but d/l link wouldn't work... just got home and tried again and voila! I have WKR!
My thoughts...
Beautiful electronic/hyperspace style intro reminds me of Feels So Good as some have mentioned above.
Then the gorgeous verse kicks in. Jay's vocals on top form as per usual. Love the bassline/guitar everything about it!
Then it all goes a bit AFO in my opinion, like Twenty Zero One/Stop Don't Panic for a few seconds (no bad thing).
The chorus is the best part, as it should be really, catchy and uplifting and danceable.
In a nutshell this is a great track, and I believe even better can be and will be on the full LP.
Oh, and do others want a promo video for this?? - there's so many possibilities for this one! |

I love it! So funky! Paul sounds amazing on the bass on this track!
If we think that the snippet we had last week is the end portion of the song, does anyone else notice slight differences between the ending of the full version we have now and that snippet.
Like for example on the snippet, when it slows and builds up again, Jay sings like a 'woah ooh woah woah...' before it kicks back in. And also towards the very end on the snippet, Jay sings fairly low, 'Feelin' the pressure baby...' just before the song ends.
Anyone else notice? |
Yes I notice that at around 2:56-2:59 of the track, its seems to be missing Jay's "woah ooh woah woaha yeah", then it goes into the chorus. like not on the 40sec teaser. |
Glad someone else noticed this. I wonder if this means this is just a radio edit and there is an original longer version (probably on the album!)...?
The part where it slows and Jay sings 'Take a white kunckle ride...' and then kicks back in, sounds to me like some kind of extended breakdown should exist there before it builds back up into the final portion of the song (which is the snippet we all heard originally!).

Well I know on one of the remixes for Mein Vein, there is a section with Jay singing a couple things that are NOT in the album version...so it's gotta be one of those things. The remixers must have access to more verses/longer version or something...But I really like how in the remix version of WKR, Jay stretches out the "It's not so easy to control it" part while in the album version, it's only sung that way once at the very end. I wish it was used more :/ But yeah, I listened to this song on the way to and from work nonstop and I LOVE it! I'm totally down with this disco/funk vibe and I do understand that this is kinda like a Canned Heat or Little L mainstream song. _________________ If it ain't no natural law, then you can keep your regulations. i am digging the new track
it may not sound completely like ol' school jmq but i do admire the evolution of this band....after seeing the clips for RDLS and WKR, if its possible to do a music video for WKR, the concept of the video should be done through jay's eyes since he is the frontman and 'spokesperson' for jmq (he deals with being in the spotlight, the paparazzi, interviews and etc, so i imagine he would be under a lot of pressure).. i could vision the video being entirely about that and towards the end he makes his grand entrance (just like in the WKR clip)
plus the song is a "retrospective on Jay’s career experiences - a cautionary tale equally applicable to anyone’s life in these pressure cooker times" (i based the idea of video from this statement on the official site) _________________ I think it’s time to find a new religion |

NOT COOL!!! AGAIN. Why people keep doing this? this song is a new release and YouTube is not doing their job at removing copy written material.
Their robbing the band of their true revenue. The new album not released yet and people are being crooked! and the 205 viewers prolly ripped the track from that...bunch of dishonest and cheap bastards
If they wanted it so badly they need to take their a$$es to the link and download it properly!!!
