It's called metaphor. And it's what's saving the videos (WKR) from sucking right now, so I'll take it! _________________

NO, I didn't try hard - my husband came up with it, and he didn't even see the videos and he isn't a jamiroquai fan either. I told him what happend in the videos this morning at breakfast, and while I was still wondering about the meaning of WKR he immediately said: Oh, that's so clear - all the helicopters, bikes and cars are vehicles - vehicles for example in the business, the one in the beginning could be Jay's vehicle Sony, the other one who picks him up later is Mercury - the time inbetween on the bike is his "time-out" or break - whereas he had most freedom.
It suddenly made "click" in my head and all the pieces of the puzzle suddenly fitted.
Then we were watching the videos again together and everything seemed to be so clear. I don't think it is "hard-trying" it is really obvious. Even my 10 years old agreed immediately and gave some more details and explained how they fit in the big picture!
Now I have re-read the new biography at jamiroquai.com and what Jay was saying about WKR - it fits:
| Quote: |
It is, he says “a cautionary tale - be careful what you wish for”, his fleet-footed take on his experiences in the “business”, but equally applicable to anyone’s life in these pressure-cooker times.
(...)
“I do feel rejuvenated, music-wise and business-wise,” he says. He was “physically knackered” after his seven albums for Sony, the label he signed to when he was 22. He felt that the relationship was exhausted, in every sense. He wanted to “draw a line in the sand”.
|
Maybe it is not the exact interpretation with every little detail, but everyone is entitled to have his own interpretation and can fit his own story into it.
Therefore it is not so bad that not everyone knows about the band's situation in every detail - you can see the message also more abstract or generally. |

no, i didn't see it, i have no no way yet, because i have no flash player and i can't download it either.
so, all just can wait is the video in a format compatible with this oldish pc so, if u find the video on mpeg or wmv, upload it on mediafire and send it to me
anyways, surprise me that news of almeria said the car is a blue porsche and the caps looks like a black 911, something is missing _________________ Only a fool can walk away from me this time

yesterday I kind of got the story behind BS but not WKR and i was completely stumped on the connection between the 2 videos
thanks to cosmicmouse, i finally get the 2 videos now, it makes sense and i now understand what was jay's motive for the videos....the helicopter, porsche, motorcycle, open road, jay all by himself, they all metaphorically had to mean something...it wasn't about jay showing off his flying skills (well maybe a little), it is about something deep and personal to jay and also JMQ _________________ I think it’s time to find a new religion |

Watching the two videos again just now with Cosmic Mouse and Catalyste's interpretations in my head just helped it make so much more sense to me...Jay really was telling a story and it wasn't just a repeat of the Cosmic Girl video with him showing off I do really miss the older videos when the whole band was included...and I hope they do make some more videos, maybe even one with the rest of the band, something akin to the White Knuckle Ride promo video montage (that would be amazing).
I've always enjoyed White Knuckle Ride and it took me a couple listens to appreciate Blue Skies but now, just as it was mentioned previously, I feel bad for thinking Jay owed us something and that he was going soft or letting us down in some way. He's the artist and is finally free from the shackles of Sony (lol) so of course he's gonna use music to express how he felt and is currently feeling. But come on....he's Jay Kay of Jamiroquai. You don't honestly think he's gonna put out an album of just rock and ballads....or an album without a single lick of some sort of jazzy/house/funk-type stuff do you? I'm even more excited now to hear the rest of the album and I hope that despite the odd album promotions going on, they will have a successful and memorable album on their hands. _________________ If it ain't no natural law, then you can keep your regulations. As a stand alone piece of music Blue Skies is a mellow no fuss bore. The video is simple inexpensive and demands no further interpretation. The whole affair has depressed me. |

It's crazy how similar the WKR video and the beginning of the new Family Guy episode are
I wonder which one inspired the other! _________________ *Meow* |
