From 25 October:
Jay Kay still has hunger for Jamiroquai to survive
Jay Kay, the Jamiroquai frontman known as the 'cat in the hat', is clearly not living in an age of austerity. In his latest video he pilots his own helicopter, and 25 million album sales have provided a Buckinghamshire mansion, Highland retreat and classic car collection.
Next month's release of Rock Dust Light Star - his first album in five years - is doubtless a relief for a pop star who's got the upkeep of an 80-acre estate to consider. Nevertheless, he showed a genuine hunger at the Forum and still possessed most of his slick moves as well as the elaborate headdress.
Kay said he last played this fairly intimate venue 16 years ago and the show, part of the build-up for the Q Awards, did feel like stepping back in time. "I wish I could transport my body back to 1994," the 40-year-old added after a few songs.
It kicked off with the funked-up Revolution 1993 and slinky grooves of High Times. The brass section and rather anonymous band were technically spot on, although the tunes didn't exactly soar.
Far better was the new album title track, where any lingering disco influences were abandoned in favour of a more rocking direction.
There were cheers for hits Little L and Alright, where Kay skipped around accompanied by a chunky bassline, and the set never really lost its groove thereafter. He was a likeable host, too, and sang one song especially for a fan's birthday.
Of the older material, the brass-laden Black Capricorn Day had aged better than the more familiar - but well received - Love Foolosophy and Canned Heat.
White Knuckle Ride proved Jamiroquai have an enduring affinity with the dancefloor, while the soulful ballad Blue Skies suggested Kay is maturing - although he managed to breach the smoking ban during the encore.
Jamiroquai may not sell another 25 million albums, but on this evidence the funk-rock survivors are still contenders for chart success.

this was on a programme i watched the other night called 'The Idiot Awards 2011'. I could have posted it in the Jay Kay section but it's very unfair on Jay & pathetic really.

i posted it here to remind people of that night & to shed some light on why that idiot in a suit was walking round with a microphone.
Their are quick glimpses of some of the jamily at the back of the queue. (Tony & David). Most of us were out of shot at the back.
great night though _________________
