This is interesting, because I have a friend just like this who yesterday I showed Montreux 1995 (they're not all that familiar with the early stuff). His first comment was how effortlessly Jay was singing, compared to how forced his voice sounded today, even when I showed him the latest "improved voice" stuff at Paleo...

I'm with you on valuing your friends opinions who aren't such mega fans though - it's good to get some non-biased views every so often.

Actually, his first comment (about Paleo) was "geez, he's looking old these days, isn't he?" lol

That's funny!
My friend hasn't ever commented on Jay's looks, but he does think he's occasionally a bit too camp for his liking, just like Mick Jagger (in his words, not mine). He can't believe that Jay is a ladies' man (a womaniser). I admit to never really noticing anything, but I respect his opinions. As you said, non-fans provide great non-biased views.

To be honest, he was the one who got me into 'you give me something'. When I first learned this was going to be a single, I was less than impressed. His enthusiasm with the song got me thinking and eventually I found myself humming it one day. Wink

I've listened to it several times and I really like it. I really love the melody and the lyrics. As Meike said before, you have to pay attention to some details of the song: the keyboards lines and the chorus give the "Jamiroquai Spirit" thay maybe you don't notice at first.
As I said, I really like it and I think that, even it's a soft tune, I can feel for real the Jamiroquai's groove.

Wow, Obi Wan already wrote all I was about to post !

Like many people here at first listening I was VERY disapointed by the song, but now I play it on loop.
The lyrics are -even if they are voluntary ego centred on Jason' life- very powerful, very personal with a lot of meaning.
Melody is pop and fresh but drums are strong, there is violon, chorus are beautiful, guitar little touches are well balanced. It's sharp and smooth, with a lof of work behind.

So ok, like everyone told It might seems a little bit classic at start, and it's not THAT groovy with crazy bassline/keyboard effects, but it's a MATURE good piece of quality music that you have to listen carefully many times without "groovy/disco" expectations to appreciate it.
I think we had felt a disappointment when it was released because we all were too much surprised after hearing so much disco in WKR and we compared Blue skies to it, there is too much contrast between the two tracks.

GOOD JOB GUYS.

BS at the live show of Jols Holland is a little better but I think the tune is saved cause the trompets and the chorusr of angels (Hazel, Lorraine and valerie).

I never would have engaged the group listen this song, as it did when I was paralyzed by listening to the great COSMIC GIRL for more than 14 years.

For me, at the moment, only saved from this new record WNR.

SOME ISSUES - REFLECTIONS

Is this what you heard in the car of Jay in Ahaus? Everyone said it was very jami.

Has delayed the publication of the album for Mercury (god of commerce) will be required of the band other songs more "commercial" and for a more "abundant" people and had to make new and faster?

Why more than 20 tracks were written has come from as far away from what fans expect?

I think what they heard was 'Super Highway', the song you can hear in this video clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m2tpWsXdu7E

I find that song it's nice buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut it dissapontied me 'cause:

a) I'm not the kind of girl who worship ballads and romantic music. Rarely I find a ballad that likes me, but it's, you know, rarely. For exemple, Spend a lifetime Embarassed .

b) Makes me think that if that song was from another band it would be great, but it's no so brilliant for Jamiroquai. But maybe it's me and my high expectations. Rolling Eyes

c) I confess the lyrics are quite clever, is not like "I luv yah ouooooooh!". Shows a background work.

d) The videoclip is... nothing special, I find that Jay looks handsome here and have nice landscape and all, but it makes me say "And?! Thats all?!"

That's my opinion.

Kinda goes from a car -grounded.
To a motorcycle -loose.
To a helicopter -free.

Next will be a spaceship! Laughing
------------------------------------------------------------------
I love to see most of the people coming around to like it.

Has anyone noted the lyrics (havn't read thread entirely)
"Thought I might Be dropping out
But now i am gonna work it out
I am gonna work with me"
What's the interpretation of this?
