The biggest Jamiroquai achievement?
Not only that Jamiroquai composes and plays most of my all time favourite tunes, Jamiroquai opened to me the doors to magnificient black music out of the 1970's.
Thank you Jamiroquai! _________________

Jamiroquai opened up the world of music to me! Before I discovered them, I knew very little about what I liked. Nothing really appealed to me. I liked songs here and there, but Jamiroquai was the first artist whose whole body of work (mostly) really resonated with me. Now I have a much firmer grasp on what appeals to me.
Jamiroquai
Omar Lye-Fook
Moses Mayes
Kaidi Tatham (Agent K)
(and I'm starting to like Micatone / Adriana Evans)
The sort of music that fuses elements of funk, jazz, disco, broken beats, etc... that's what I really like. I keep looking for more songs and artists though, because I feel like it's never enough. Once I hear something really unique... something that really resonates with me... I keep looking for more music just like that. It's a music addiction! A search for another perfect high...
Jamiroquai really means a lot to me. I hope the band can still make music that touches my soul. |

Very well said! Jamiroquai is officially the soundtrack of my life since the day I've heard Blow Your Mind on may 1994! Thanks to the band I've been opening the door to
GREAT SOULMEN: Marvin Gaye and Isaac Hayes then Curtis Mayfield, James Brown, Donny Hathaway and from the recent generation Omar Lye-fook (so much underrated, he's a genious!) Erykah Badu, N'dambi and Jill Scott.
GREAT FUNKYMEN: Positive Force, Don Blackman, Roy Ayers, Earth Wind and Fire, Meshell Ndegeocello (album 1-2-4)
And GREAT JAZZMEN: Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, Gil Scott Heron, Wayne Shorter, John Coltrane, Keith Jarret, Stan Getz...José James and Esperanza Spalding.
I've been forgetting billions others!
From the deep of my heart thank you very much Jamiroquai for my soul education! _________________ "People find it's hard to be strong, cos' they don't know where they're coming from" |

jamiroquai made the achievement to recognize miself as a funk-jazz fan, because takes me years to listen all the songs and discover more.
maybe it helps that in my youngest years ive listen mildes davis, james brown, earth wind and fire, barry white...between my rock tunes.
i mean, always the rock has been in my life
take me years to become a jamiroquai fan , then discover more jazz and start to open my mind to more music genres, in the past i was very rock and close-minded (musically speaking)some way...then jamiroquai help me change it.
if it wasn't because that trip called cosmic girl(both video and song change the way i see it all, ever since) and the amazing tunes i've discovered while i was trying to find where all came from, i swear ill be not here, then ill never know so many great music like i have listen till today.
jamiroquai help me discover another side of me.
like, the jazzy side or something.
i know i will discover even more in the years to come. _________________ Only a fool can walk away from me this time

Jamiroquais first album inspired me to work for free on a project for over six months. And that was a project for United Nations Children's Fund. My work contributed to save over 10.000 african children from starving to death.
I'm very sad that the Jamiroquai of today won't inspire other people to do the same thing (unless they discover the old albums). Jay gave up after couple of albums and was very dissapointed that nobody seemed to care about his important lyrics. (Hey, I did and still do!)
Thats why I am very dissapointed to hear all the new crap they are releasing these days. And thats why I say Jamiroquai is dead in some earlier post here on this forum some weeks ago. I am most dissapointed with the big group of "real fans" that say that they "love Jamiroquai". But look what Jay wanted from the very beginning. He surely wanted people to do more things to make this a better world and surely wasn't thinking that his fans would be more interested in finding out all about his clothing style, expensive cars or his ex-girlfriends. And I blame the fans for this. C'mon. Make JK happy and show that you are real fans and not "real fans". More posts on how we can make this a better world. And up with a banner for greenpeace here or something.. Do something! |

I loved the Jamiroquai music style. It incorporated the soul and funk I loved!
I loved the Jamiroquai style of Dance. It was free-spirited.

That is freaking cool!!!
For me, since i was born at the Love Foolosophy era and thinking it was one person (i know i'm not alone here), i am now still considering myself a "new" fan, it was a 'retreat journey' for me .. you know AFO,Sink,TWM whoaahh ..then EOPE whoaahh roaring my head up!the jazz, the horn, the environmental muses,i remember i was like.. this is actually Jamiroquai music! this is the real one! They pull me back from my stuck of the 90's alternative British music scene and discover that this kind of music (that maybe only in my imagination) really exist .. it's jazzy,it's funky, dancey, rockish, melodic .. it's flexible! and then i saw their live performances on youtube.. God i can't believe my eye!Who doesn't fell in love with Jamiroquai?! |

I think he was more dissapointed that the record company dictated what the vibe should be.. You sign on the dotted line, and I guess you almost sign away your soul to a money making corporation such as the music industry. Signed up, in contract and you cant put an old head on young shoulders... And no doubt, experienced industry people 'guiding him'... Money talks and the promises of fame n fortune would be hard for any <young> musician to resist!
I guess then, after a while, behaviour becomes habit.. As in, thats why we see the lifestyle we see today. Im sure he uses his money to see the world and have experiences which have made him grow, alongside all that glitters! I believe the core of his beliefs are still the same. Unless he decides differently, he keeps himself very much out the main stream media... He knows what hes doing on that score and theres a lot of his life we know nothing about... you can't completely judge the man he's become - Apart from the side he let's you see.
Their first albums will always be special for the sound, vibe and lyrics. He mustve have known we thought his / their work was important, thats why we were drawn to them

Hmmm... you mean here to stop feeding the materialism, money orinintated culture and celebrity shite gossip? and get collective to make a difference?
Yeah, good point. By design, thats mainly the society we've become today (as he predicted!) so many people are now so far removed now from who and what we're really supposed to be.. as in, disconnected from nature and the essence of what we are, that its a force to be reckoned with. as I say, I think this is done by design and it would take a lot for any mainstream band to break through it now. One of the main bands which stand out for alternative lyrics nowadays is Muse (although makes we wonder how they get away with some of it!! Again, maybe done by design)
I think we make him and the rest of the band happy the fact we stay on the journey with them... I would love to see some of the old style lyrics... But I love the new lyrics just as much.
Their abums, reflect their journey..

Yeah, I agree.. As you know, be change you want to see n all that... Although, always warey of organisations like greenpeace.. a lot of charities and causes which start off with noble intentions, get infultrated by governments seeing issues that could be used for ill purposes, power and authority; so it offers funding (on condition, no doubt)...put their own foot soldiers in positions of influence and then offers more funding until the whole organisation is flushed out and replaced with politically motivated interests.
"It doesn't matter what is true, it only matters what people believe is true.... You are what the media define you to be. Greenpeace became a myth and fund generating machine." ("Forbes", Nov. 1991) - Paul Watson, co-founder of Greenpeace
if this wasnt the case, there would be warmth, fresh food and clean water for every man, woman and child on this planet...look beyond the mainstream bullshit |

me too.. i truly love them and relate to them on every level. when i look back, its because of them i did start to 'wake up' to what is going on around us... alongside (as im sure you put) becoming a soundtrack for my life... the number of albums and the quality of work is rare.. not many fan bases can say they have a 18 - 20 year, ongoing life soundtrack (always a track to fit every event )
how lucky are we, honestly!
jay is only 4 years older than me and although the band planted the seeds back then and have contributed to who i am now, its all about timing, old head / young shoulders and beliefs... |

Here is some thought. This is no criticism to anybody's post.
Galaxyfunk and Jamirokaki pinpoint why Jamiroquai were so great. But Perhaps they were at the forefront of some revolutionary social movement.
The early 90's in my part of the world were about reevaluating the given, searching for living a better life, thinking environment, vegetarian, organic, recycling, used clothing, volunteering, donating to humanitarian & animal organizations, questioning the government, and demonstrating expression at festivals and clubs. It was a lot of fun.
But I didn't even know who Jamiroquai was until 1997. But we still felt anti-war and government, and reevaluation of the way life should be, kind of an activism similar to a modern day hippy. Maybe Gen-X. The future of the youth was feared. Earth Day was celebrated.
It maybe was more than Jamiroquai, but became more of a social trend. So whether you want to label someone as a real fan or a "real fan", really isn't the argument. What it sounds like you are saying is there is a select group of people that celebrated this time while listening to Jamiroquai's early music.
And this group now sees Jamiroquai's music as changed. He's changed. His music more indulgent and materialistic. And this is criticized. And it's true the music is different. But really, the whole world has changed and is different from back then.
So to me, A Fan, is simply someone who has liked Jamiroquai at one point. And probably rare for that fan to be one from their beginning to today.
For me, it isn't an issue of whether we're seen as a real fan or a "real fan", or a new fan or fair-weather fan. I just simply love to hear music from whatever artist I feel like listening to that day. And celebrate that artist that day.
Ummm -I really don't know how I ended up here on this forum! |

I realize I'm coming in on this conversation a little late but I just had to add my thoughts from a strictly musical angle.
I became aware of Jamiroquai around the same time I was discovering Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Deodato etc... It was perfect timing really as they showed me that it was possible to keep that style of funk current and relevant - really got me excited about the potential. Those first few albums really inspired what was to become a major part of my music career.
He continues to inspire me with the fact that he is still putting out music all the years later. Despite line up changes and all the struggles that go along with trying to maintain a band and music career over the long term, he has never stopped doing what he loves.
Change is going to happen - I think it has to happen. Herbie changed and revolutionized music in the 60's and 70's, then he changed again and revolutionized music again in the 80's but that still doesn't mean I love everything he has done... (anybody listen to Future 2 Future?)
The biggest Jamiroquai achievement? I'd say putting out some great albums that took many of us to new levels then sticking it out for all these years.
Anyway, here's hoping for many more years of music and inspiration! |
