It's got all the old style ingedients. That Rhodes, the strings, the brass, the underpowered little guitar riffs, Jay improvising. You are the one.... |

Not to mention the weird synth sound of what seems like an UFO taking off starting at 4:48 of 'Smile . Weird placement for that effect ...... BUT IT WORKS ! Cheers!

Yes, I did noticed that sound too Brent ! About the "scatting", it's strangely mixed with a saxo ? What is the trick? _________________ Smile ~ |

Yeah, well pointed out Brother Russ, not to mention how the splendid synergy between J and the back-up singers vocals seems to be amped up too (mostly in the middle of the choruses) . Cheers!

I think the secret in the scatting between J and the sax is the underlined addition of the flute, you can clearly hear high-pitched snaps of the flute during the main scat portions starting into 2/3 of 'Smile' . If anything 'Smile' does more of than previous and current material is be so damn delightful sounding on it's innovation overall, in my opinion . Cheers!
Sincerely,

Lush. Should have been on RDLS or used to replace one of the weaker RDLS tracks. Can’t wait to hear what they’ll do to it live. Reminds me of the dreamy feel to Blow Your Mind and Stillness in Time. With no more B track gems and tracks that seem to go on forever to look forward to, I hope they release more interim tracks like this. This is definitely the Return of the Space Cowboy. Made me . |

Good to see I'm not the only one playing this on repeat for hours on end.
Such a beautiful, beautiful track. Strange to think I'm already thinking about marriage but I can already see this being my wedding song haha! |

Oh yeah! Now they hit the point needed.
This track, contains all the ingridients needed from all decades, mixing the old tunes vibes and the actual vibes.
Congratulations to the band! This was, what I expected most!

Comment from Matt, I want to share:

Hi Meike
I am so glad to hear everyone loves smile!
The song was written by Jay and myself at Hook End.
We recorded the backing track live that same night during the RDLS sessions and later the strings, BV'S and horns were added.
I think Jay wanted to give something back to the fans for all their unfailing support, we are so lucky to have you guys
Enjoy! |
