Fatboy Slim 'Palookaville' .. Review by D!
Hello Jamirotalkers,

I don't often recommend albums unless is very very good, or that I really liked it. Well... I had 'You've Come a Long Way, Baby' and 'Halfway Between the Gutter and the Stars', by Fatboy Slim, and I wasn't expecting much for this new album. But I bought 'Palookaville', to give it a try, and now after hearing it several times it blows my mind.

My personal favorites 'Mi Bebé Masoquista', 'North West Three', 'Jin Go Lo Ba' and specially 'Song for Chesh'. If you liked the previous albums, I highly recommend this one to you. Norman Cook didn't lose his touch.

Featuring vocals by Bootsy Collinns, Damon Albarn, Justin Robertson, between others; this album represents a new step of the DJ, and this time doesn't play with sounds and noises all the time, so now he is making good songs. It could be a mixing between 'You've Come...' and 'Halfway...', or at least that is what I feel: Dance music for melancholic souls.

Tracklisting

1. Don't Let The Man Get You Down
2. Slash Dot Dash
3. Wonderful Night
4. Long Way From Home
5. Put It Back Together
6. Mi Bebé Masoquista
7. Push And Shove
8. North West Three
9. The Journey
10. Jin Go Lo Ba
11. Song For Chesh
12. The Joker

I heard a bit of Slash Dot Slash, and I didn't like it. I read that Slim and his wife got divorced, as well as some girl dying after one of his shows-hence the melancholy tone of the CD. I'll have to track it down, though-I mean, it's Fatboy Slim. Wink

yea the album is quite alrite...but kinda gay if u know what i mean...3 out of 5 max. and it's a pitty that the first single out of it was slash dot dash cos that song really sucks ass imho...he's like trying to catch the same flow he had back in the days of 'better living through chemistry' & 'u've come a long way baby' but...nowhere close. but yea...it's listenable.

Hello there,

Well... that's the reason why I didn't talk about that song.. If you listen to the music is quite good, the sample of 'Slash Dot Dash' (/.-) is awful.

Like mörö said, is listeneable... is not like 'You've Come...'.

Anyway, keep telling me what you think (then I can see if my ear is still working ok).

Norman Cook produced Freak Power (the band that toured with JMQ in the UK around 1997). I heard their album "Drive-Thru Booty" and it's fantastic and it features N.C. on the guitar and as a co-producer. Any more Freak Power fans round here?

I think N.C.'s work as Fatboy Slim is also very good, but unfortunately I only heard some singles. I think, I'll go out and buy this album you recommended (thanx guys!) If it sounds like "Gangsta Trippin'" or "Rockafeller Skunk" I'm gonna dig it!
