People have to realise that they're not going to hear the early 90's Jamiroquai any more. Times have moved on. I loved their earlier work like most on here. However, Travelling Without Movement was a marked move away from their first two albums. The much lauded title track from that TWM is purely functional. However played live, it's totally fantastic. Jamiroquai have always been a "live" band in me eyes.
What am I saying? Hell If I know. What I do know is that Automaton is more my bag than RDLS. I love that the keyboards, bass and those disco strings have been brought to the forefront. Destitue Illusion would have fitted right into with this album and I loved that track all the way back then, being a lapsed B Boy from the 80's electro scene.
Hell, those middle three platters, Hot Property, Something About You and Summer Girl are IMO amazing. I mean proper amazing. Pure filthy funk, sweet dreamy disco and soul in those three tracks. It's all about opinions. People like Vitamin. And it's good, but nowhere near those three tracks.

For me Nice and Spicy is a good bonus track, but not good enough to be in the final tracklist. Glad it was released though! In falls in line with That's Not The Funk I Want as a solid b side. |

Nice and Spicy is sort of like a B-side from Synkronized or A Funk Odyssey, I like it. It's weird and maybe experimental but definitely fits better as a bonus track. Still very enjoyable for me though. Great bass line! And it's always nice to hear Jay singing about hyperspace lol.
Edit: Okay, I just listened to it a second time now and I'm like...seriously digging this track. It sounds so much better the second time around, kinda like some re-heated Chinese food Yeah, I'm really liking Nice and Spicy!! _________________ If it ain't no natural law, then you can keep your regulations. Nice to hear that said, I think there is a very strong Roger Moore vibe in the album, think The Spy Who Loved Me, which is high praise from me

I've had several people ask me about Nice and Spicy. I responded to you all in PMs but for whatever reason, my messages are no longer sending...they just sit in the Outbox and never get sent. So whoever asked me about Nice and Spicy today, please just email me at zeioiidx7@gmail.com _________________ If it ain't no natural law, then you can keep your regulations. Any guessing for inadequate pause after "командир/commander"? Such errors are typical for robotic speaking. |

Ok, just listened to Nice and Spicy, and my opinion is that it should have been in the album instead of We Can Do It, and it would have rounded up the album better
I really liked the song |

Just have to say, this album is really growing on me.
I think with anything that we wait for for a long time, we all build up epic guesses about what could be in store, and then inevitably when it comes out there's a feeling of, "Oh, that's what you did? Kinda weird. OK." I've experienced this feeling, for example, whenever a new Star Wars movie comes out. Oh there's so much potential! And then, "Oh, OK." And I definitely had this feeling when RDLS came out.
But this album really nailed it on a lot of songs, and the ones that didn't work for me initially, they're growing on me. For me, "Shake It On", "Hot Property", "Summer Girl", and "Vitamin" blew my mind when I first heard them, and they still do. The rest have taken a little getting used to, but I can already tell that I will listen to this whole album a lot (unlike Dynamite and RDLS, which have some tracks that are almost painful to listen to for me).
I also have a very different experience listening to the album with earphones than on a speaker. Some songs (like Shake It On and Hot Property) are best experienced going directly into your head, while I think others are a hair overproduced for that experience ('Nights Out in the Jungle' and 'Carla' are that way for me... sometimes it's like, "come on, can we hear Jay's voice without all the sugar?"). But listening to them on a speaker you don't hear all that stuff the same way and it works better.
Anyway, I do hope those who are disappointed with this album will come around. I know the feeling of disappointment. But having grown up listening to this band, knowing every little bit inside and out, I'm so happy to have these new songs in my life and I definitely think they knocked it out of the park this time around. |

I have this feeling we fans raise the bar to high in our expectations when it comes to a new Jamiroquai album.
If this same album was released by Bruno Mars or Pharrell, we probable would be praising them for releasing such amazing disco songs that manage to sound retro and modern at the same time, for bringing the funk back to the radio, but since we are talking about Jamiroquai, we are expecting even more, and I think that's kind of unfair. I think this album is great. |

For me, the issue is that the new Jamiroquai sound lacks any sense of subtlety. There's nothing new for you to discover after listening to the song a bunch of times, whereas the early albums had a lot of interesting little details. Everything grooved and fit together in a very unique way and they had a unique sonic signature. It's a little more straightforward now.
I find some of the lyrics on this album difficult to get past, and while I'm into experimentation, Nights in Jungle is a little odd. Cool groove, weird approach. Maybe it'll grow on me. Doubt I will ever really get into We Can Do It or Superfresh. Summer Girl's first half is a little too syrupy.
They capture bits of the old magic at moments, and those made me very happy - the second half of Shake It On and most of Vitamin are the primary examples. As for the new sounds, I find myself enjoying the second half of Something About You and Hot Property. |
