Hmm...u can't compare Nick & Stu... but Stu did a lot for the band's musical style with his bass playing, Nick's style fits in very well but doesn't have the personalty that Stu's playing introduced. Imagine songs like "too young to die" without Stu's superb playing. Compare it to the first song of EOPE where he didn't play bass, then u will notice..
Just my few cents

gday fellow funksters.
i think there could be another perspective on this.........
i do not have the article on this, but when Jamiroquai performed here in adelaide last (November 9th 2002), they stayed here for about 5 days, which is longer than most bands.
in the article in our paper (the advertiser), it was a bit on our nightclub scene and it had a shot of jay socialising with some fans at a 'club in the city.
when they interviewed him there, it went through the usual ramble "...it's good to come to a city where there are alot of good vibes...blablabla...We're staying here for our (bass player) Nick Fyffe's wedding.
i distinctly remember this because we then found out that the very girl lived in the SAME BLOCK AS US!!!!!!!!!!
holy crap. but do you think that the wife would have wanted Nick in a location that suited her, not having him stressing out (and flying) all over the world?
sounds about right to me.
if i can find the article, i'll post it here. |

That was a rumour!!!
NO WAY!!! that whole "nick-is-engaged-stuff" was a JOKE from Jay. I remember that we talked about it here... try the search engine here and you will hopefully find the topic.

Which song is it you're comparing to? 'When you gonna learn'? Isn't it Stu playing on this? Or is it the so-called 'original acid jazz demo'? I'd thought it was the other way around...

Just one thing i want to add to the discussion Nick Fyffe - Stuart Zender: just look at (!) and listen to the way Nick plays bass on Mr. Moon live at Montreux 2003. And with Little L (Pori 2003) and Just Another Story (Montreux 2003) he does a very good job too! |

NICK is awesome bassman, and i have no idea why he couldnt
do the same thing ROB does - i mean he writes his perfect stuff together with Jay.
this is a question... |

Hi,
very very intresting subject it is.
In my opinion:
Stuart has writin very great basslines of high level. and if I listin to the lines of Nick, for example: main vein, little L and corner of the earth I think: man, that is easy. the verse of main vein , that is like 3 notes. but those simple bass lines gives such an enormous groove to the song. think of little L and main vein. i always learned: don't take it over the top, simple basslines can be so good. Furthermore, It's very hard to come in a band that already exists 8 years or so. So i have many many respect for Nick Fyffe. |

In my opinion, comparing Nick to Stuart would be an offend to Stu.. Although they are top-class bassist, Zender has "the groove", Nick never had..... |

The whole Jamiroquai style has changed. Nick had to play different things. if nick would play the same of even more complicated lines as stuart it woudn't fit the song. Nick found just the right line for the song.
So you can't say
| Quote: |
| Zender has "the groove", Nick never had |
than you will have to judge the players individually and not with a band. so that is just another nothing-based one-liner |

I agree with Guido.
Something i would like to add is te following: if i listen to the Synkronized-tour and the AFO-tour, i think Nick brings the band more together, more like one, if i compare these concerts with the previous tours. Stuart did his own thing what makes the music very special, Nick makes the band play better together. |

Hey Guido!! Those were the right words!!! I agree with you too!!!
Remember Nick used to do this:
I think he tried with that to make the moment more enjoyable.. you know what i mean??? i think he wanted to say: hey party people, let's put everybody our hands together... but he did it in his own way... so that's very beautiful and great of his part... i think he's a nice musician... and Stuart Zender was another man... He was there with his bass, he was in his world... we can't compare them, that's the truth... and i agree with LLCoolJR when he said that Nick used to make the band play better together... that's a thing of a band... not only a musician doing his job... if i'm wrong in something just tell me.. Bye!! _________________ This is FunkEducation, supporting the 1992-1998 Jamiroquai!!

yes I agree with Funk Education that Nick is a "band man" and played great tunes...but on Lörrach concert is was already quite obviously that he was also tired of beeing just a figure in Jay's plays. Jay forced him to wear that strange cow hat, thrown on the stage from fans, and it was clearly to be seen that Nick felt uncomfortable to play Jay's fool |
