But if you so desperately need someone who "leads you by example", maybe you shouldn´t chose a cocain addict.
By saying that I just want to make one thing clear : Jay has never had the ambition to play a " role model " for kids like you.
Or why do you think he smokes like mad, drinks like a cow and speaks of his cocain habit publicly ?
Do you really think Jay wants to tell us : " Hey kids! All you have to do is smoke, boose and snort in order to be happy! " ???

heehee. that sounds so demeaning but too true  .
gabik, i'm not talking about smoking like a chimney...i dont mean "leading by example" in that.
i mean in saving forests, saving the whales, seals, oil, etc.
like i said in the opening post, he urges people to donate to greenpeace n oxfam etc.... but you don't hear about his donations.
i only just heard from miss sparkles that he has donated to greenpeace.

i dunno. because he is an idiot? because he is a walking case that marijuana ruins your brain???
jay complains that no-one followed him in donating. of course not!!! when he did become really big (ie TWM days), he didn't keep talking about the environment... he started yanking his chain over his cars/girls/houses.
what happened?? he turned from a street kid into a multi-million dollar popstar within 6 years.
if any bum on the street became a millionaire almost overnight, it'd get to their head!!!!!!!!!!

It's well known fact that he donated (and record company of course too) don't know how many percents (something like 10) from each sold Emergency On Planet Earth album. |

I don't know how they split those percents but Sony had to give up some money too right?
I hope this isn't just a myth, I heard it quite few times. And if I remember right, something is mentioned in EOPE album credits. |

I remember that 7% of merchandise profits of his own clothing lable (orenda?!) was donated to greenpeace.

I guess he just became too rich..in the 90's all his songs where about the environment, racism, poverty....now it's all about love and fast cars. But the music is still damn good... |

i think everyone is missing the point yeah jamrioquai and jay were a political type of band and jay does contradict him self now but he is just one guy he did his part with the 7% of profits going to green peace and all that jazz but in hearign this we cant just sit back and go ohh very nice jay can do all the work we ourselves have to fight the power but no body did so they just gave up and started doing disco and stuff in the long run it isnt up to jamiroquai its up to you! get out there clean your streets donate to charities sponser a child the ppl we should be sookin at are billgates and liek the richest ppl alive why coodnt they just donate 50% of there earning bill gates wood make it again in a second and how many of you take lotto tickets or scratchies or what ever if all the money that got put into making,distributing and winning the lotto we would of wiped out world hunger all ready jay is right we are too dumb for the band it would of been mentally frustrating pushing sh!t up hill so to speak because thats all it would be fighting a losing battle *peace* |

that is one of the most misinformed statements ever.
bill gates donates substantially. over the years, he has donated AT LEAST 25% of his net assets to greenpeace and oxfam ALONE, and out of his own pocket,and he recently donated $500 million to the tsunami fund.
he chooses not to go public with what he does, which is a good thing to do.
maybe tood you should be on the back of George W. Bush, who only help when they can get some resources back.

And I hate Bono. He´s an asshole. U2 would be one of the great bands ever if it wern´t for Bono. Don´t compare jay with Bono. |

I fully agree with (nearly) all above, although what Jay spents his money on is his bussiness...
But about the lyrics: I loved those from EOPE and ROTSC (and also partially those of TWM)!
But look at the lyrics of FJLIS!!! I still think this song rocks, but what Jay is singing now is not what I was waiting for...
