Jamiroquai in Johannesburg/South Africa
Leanne was so nice to send me some great pics from the concert in Johannesburg with the words:

| "Best damb concert I have ever been to. They made my year." |
I will put the rest of the photos into the gallery soon - one of them you can enjoy now:
12 Oct 02 South Africa Johannesburg, The Dome @ Northgate
Thanx Leanne!
I hope to read some lines about the concert soon from you!

...okay, here come some more pics from the concert.
You will refind them the next time in the Galleries (click at the bubble on the top!).
By the way, I read at J.talk that the sound had been so bad. Is it true?

Here comes a review of the gig:

Jamiroquai leave fans high on music
By Paul Eksteen
Like sardines in a sweaty can, thousands of Jamiroquai fans squeezed into the Northgate Dome on Saturday night for what turned out be a racy, funk-driven spectacle.
British superstar Jay Kay and his band, backed up by some superb lighting effects and dappled black-and-silver starlight, turned on the style and left a unified crowd screaming out the lyrics of almost every song.
Jay Kay has an overwhelming presence for such a diminutive figure. On the night, his band gave clues as to why Jamiroquai's music has reached such extraordinary levels of popularity in this country and around the world. Aided by an excellent trio of back-up singers, the band gave a polished display and their slight reinterpretations of songs only added to the crowd's frenzy.
The golden circle just in front of the stage was, as expected, a wild mire of swaying hands and gleaming armpits. As more and more people surged forward to get a closer look at their idol, the heat intensified and the oxygen supply dropped. Nobody seemed to care, though, as they swooned - some, literally - through hits like Canned Heat, Cosmic Girl and Little L.
The heat might have gotten to Jay Kay as he mixed calls of "Legalise it" with a deeply enthusiastic, if expletive-ridden, ode to Durban Poison. This ability to entertain through easy rapport with the crowd only added to a hilarious recollection of a recent trip to Cape Town using a most surprising and very cheeky Cape Flats accent.
At a time when big-name concerts are rather scarce in this country, Jamiroquai's sponsors must be as overwhelmed by their impact as their music-hungry fans. |
