Jamiroquai has booked another Australian tour
Hello all,
On the Radio this morning, it was announced that Jamiroquai has booked another tour for Australia. No other details were revealed, all I know is that if it is true, I am going to be the happiest person on the planet.
Keep groovin'

I AM GOING TO MOVE TO BLOODY AUSTRALIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!! screw the hole in the ozon-layer!
if someone from jamiroquai reads this, or if someone, who knows any member of jamiroquai in person reads this:
WHAT ABOUT THE FANS IN EUROPE? YOU ARE A EUROPEAN BAND, WHY DO YOU LET YOUR FANS OVER HERE SUFFER? FIRST YOU CANCEL THE FESTIVALS AROUND ENGLAND AND THEN YOU GO ON A ADDITIONAL TOUR IN AUSTRALIA AND JAPAN AND NOW ONCE AGAIN ADDITIONAL CONCERTS IN AUSTRALIA????? YOU THINK, YOUR FANS OVER HERE ARE MADE OUT OF MONEY? I AM WILLING TO TRAVEL TO THE UK FOR A CONCERT, I'M WILLING TO TRAVEL TO ANY OTHER COUNTRY AROUND EUROPE BUT AUSTRALIA????
of course, i'm happy for all you aussies, who will get another chance to see them live but still... _________________ Dear Auntie Em. Hate you, hate Kansas, took the dog. Dorothy. x |

hey australia ain't that bad!
I was born in Europe and lived there for about 10 years before moving here, and I remember how easy it was just to hop over the border and be in another country. We are unbelievably isolated in Australia and in the city I live in, we are extremely lucky when a great band such as Jamiroquai graces our shores.
However, I understand where you're coming from, and I would be bloody annoyed too.
I don't know if the announcement is true, so don't stress. Look at the bright side, at least you live in the same hemisphere as they do!

All of you are spoiled! What do you think it's like living in the bloody USA? Jamiroquai's done two gigs here since '99, and only 5 or 6 since '97! I got into the band last year when I first heard them, so I don't think I'm ever going to see a concert. I can't fly anywhere!
Europe and Australia are both in the Eastern Hemisphere, aren't they? I'M THE ONE ISOLATED!
All I need is one concert on our shores, and I'd be happy. Is it coming? Maybe after the next album. Probably not.
I'm envious of you all. I wish I were a Brit, if not so lucky to be an Aussie. Whenever you're feelin' a little deprived of your favorite band, remember Freddie Hg on the East Coast of America, and that should brighten your day. In the meantime, I'll be introducing everyone over here to Jamiroquai, because no one's heard of them here.
MOST COMMON RESPONSE WHEN AN AMERICAN IS ASKED IF THEY KNOW/LIKE JAMIROQUAI:
"OH, THAT GUY WITH THE BIG BLACK HAT AND THE MOVING ROOM? I LOVE THAT SONG."
That's right, one song. They're known for the TWOM Hat, and their video of Virtual Insanity.
God help us. |

Like you, CosmicBear, I do not really understand why Jamiroquai now tours so often in Australia. Still, I am very happy for all of you, down under!
Freddie, you should be happy that people know who you are talking about.
I have many European friends who told me they never heard of Jamiroquai before I mentioned it. _________________ ?Now I've got that sunshine in my life? |

Why Australia, you say?
Well, I think our high album sales are one of the key reasons why Jamiroquai's been gracing our shores so often this year. AFO's been insanely popular down here – I’m rusty on exact figures but I know it's been in the charts for over a year straight and it's gone triple (or is that quadruple?) platinum. So basically, per capita, Australia = huge Jamiroquai market. Even Jay mentioned how pleased he's been with the way sony's been working it down here, unlike in the US, where it seems the band's record company reps have been doing f. all, (save for sitting on their fat arses and eating Doritos)...
And also, not to toot my country's horn or anything, but who wouldn't want to hang here? Courtesy of its generally warm and friendly natives, Australia is blessed with a wonderfully laid back vibe (i think jay coined it to be a 'lack of snobbery'). What else? life is inexpensive, good food is plentiful, the nightlife rocks, we have great taste in music and the sun is always shining (well, most of the time, anyway)...
But seriously folks, let's not get too jealous about a few aussie performances in the past 10 months. Like Sanida has said, we are an incredibly isolated place at times and unlike our European cousins, catching a jami gig in a neighboring country is usually laughably out of the question….
Also, one more reason for the jami tour proliferation - maybe it's to do with the freshness of jami fever over here? The AFO tour has been the first real chance for many of us to see jami play live. I know the Melbourne concerts sure went off - jay mentioned how stoked he was with the responsiveness of the audience … Not that you Euros or yanks are jaded and ungrateful or anything, but audience appreciation must taste good!
Aussie, Aussie, Aussie! Oi, Oi Oi!

Well , Miss JayKay, your thread is a very interesting report on what's going on musically in Australia.
I have to admit: it all sounds like many good reasons. _________________ ?Now I've got that sunshine in my life? |

I understand the reason why Jamiroquai is touring in Australia again very well. I'm glad they are so succefull in Australia. The people there have some senses. I mean, AFO was not that succesfull here in Europe f.i. right? Not like their previous albums i think. (im not sure, dont kill me for saying something wrong, im a newbie fan)
It must be great for the guys to get such a response down under.
I will wait patiently until my time comes. They will come to Europe again someday...right....right?? _________________ Now we did it once, can we do it again?

Good points well made, Missjaykay.
Why not spend a lot of time in a country that actually appreciates your work? The music industry still places such importance on "cracking" America. It's not necessary, and in Jamiroquai's case, it's not going to get any better than 1997. They tried their best.

I definetly have to agree with all of you, especially Miss Jay Kay, a great ambassador hehe
But something makes me think that they will want to take a break from touring. Maybe they are just thinking about one appearance at a festival over in the eastern states. Who knows
It is jamiroquai fever over here. They are being played non stop on the radio, and its not just songs such as Little L and YGMS...they are actually broadcasting remixes of Main Vein and Feel So Good. Last nite I was in a bar and the live band there did a cover of Love Foolosophy. It went off! They also played Cosmic Girl and last week the DJ played about 4 songs, including Soul Education.
Lovin' it

Aussies!
hey didjin - aussie hats a called 'akubra' hats. Just for the record.
I was at the sydney harbour concert and seriously the support tok your breath away, AFO is still in the top 30 albumn, it ratd number 6 best selling albumn for 2002 here.
I gotta agree with MissJayKay - its always warm (even too hot sometimes) and even Jay said on the rove interveiw that aussies are more on his level and that the 'lads' just want to keep comiong back - who knows their motives i'm just glad they want to come back - i'd better start scanning for dates!!
luv ya all xoxoxo |

I have to disagree with that, Ezbe......They did a smashing job breaking into the US charts, but there's more to come, and I think they could easily become popular in America again.
The albums following TWOM were not successful in America, I believe, because:
SYNKRONIZED ~ came out 3 years after TWOM. By that time everyone had forgotten about them. Furthermore, the music suffered from putting the album together too quickly (Stu was gone, so they rewrote all the music and put it on a CD).
A FUNK ODYSSEY ~ This albums' good, but it's too foreign for the American public. Disco sounds like a thing of the past, not a thing of the future. The majority of the American people can't handle this retro sound.
If Jay follows through with his promise of bringing back the brass lines, we may once again have some unique music on our hands. America's tastes keep changing unpredictably, but at the same rate, we're always looking for something different! If Jay does give us something different on the sixth album, there is a great chance the US will listen once again.
Cheers. |
