Daft Punk 'Human After All' Review by D!
Hello Jamirotalkers,

This year brought me a lot of albums I wanted to listen to. Among them, Chemical Brothers, Beck, Moby, of course Jamiro, and yesterday I bought 'Human After All' by Daft Punk.
To give you an idea of what I liked of them, 'Homework' might have been a big step for electronic music back in 1996, but I only liked the singles, and the great song 'Alive' too. I mean, I have the album and I listen to it, but I'm not a big fan of it.
'Discovery' from 2001 had excellent songs ('Voyager', 'Something About Us', 'Veridis Quo', to name a few), so I was ready to hear something new after all this time (by the way, I didn't listen to 'Daft Club').

The title says it all. They are not robots. Just humans. And like every human beign, they make mistakes. I believe this album didn't have the correct preparation it deserved. Made in only 6 weeks, this 9-track record (and one interlude) it could be named as THE Vocoder album. That sound that Daft Punk brought to us for the first time, is in almost every song in here.
But that is not the main problem. They use only a few loops on every song that they repeat again and again. 'Robot Rock' is a great single and song in my opinion, but is too repetitive. Like everything in this album.

Don't get me wrong. Is not that bad, but coming from the Daft Punk I was expecting something more. 'Make Love', 'Robot Rock' and 'The Brainwasher' are the ones that I liked the most. 'Television Rules The Nation' tries to be another 'Around The World', but I don't think they can repeat the success of that great song.
Other thing I realized is that the are no lyrics in this album, I mean they don't sing... only the names of each track.

Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo should put the robot suits again, leave the human world and make another great album. They can. And they will.

"So those Gallic Robots were Human After All!!!"

buffaloman_R Hello, buffaloman_R

Very Happy Well, "Human After All" is nothing but a supplement to Daft Punk's evolutionary 2001 album "Discovery" Very Happy. Still a good little album, even though, has Diego smartly pointed out, the repetition of beats which DP had never succumbed to has finally taken a lick on them. Wink Still, good and just review brother Diego, I just hope these Frenchies recharge their nickel-cadminum batteries fully for their next album Wink! Thanks for listening and Peace!

Sincerely,
JamiroFan2000

'human after all' track is just craaazyy 4rea. the LP doesn't reach to as high as the first 2 yet, but it might be too early for statements like that if u know what i mean. ok laters.

I really like Human After All! It seems to have got enough negative reviews and I can see why but personally I dislike only two tracks, Prime Time Of Your Life (what is this about?!) and Emotion (dull end to the album). The single Robot Rock is excellent as a Radio Edit, the video is really retro and cool too, I really like the title track too Smile

It's definitely their worst album, but "Human After All" has some good spots. However, it's time for the French duo to re-think their thoughts on repetitive loops. I like the darker tracks on the album, namely "Steam Machine," "Prime Time Of Your Life," and "The Brainwasher." I also agree with Kieran, Robot Rock is a good radio edit. Definitely leans toward the "Homework" fan, and probably will alienate some fans of "Discovery." Personally, I like 'em both.

What I want to know is what the hell they were doing for four years? It only took them six weeks in 2004 to do this, you can't tell me it took that long for some Discovery tracks to get remixed to kingdom come by every producer-and-DJ team on the planet (Daft Club). It''s insulting. Still, I'll buy their next album...they just better be quicker about it.

LOL yeah I was talking about the music! Haha!
But is only my opinion.

Yes, of course the album has some good moments. Like I said, 'Robot Rock' is a great song -although I haven't seen the video yet-.
And like Supersonic1 I've been asking myself the same thing, they did it in only 6 weeks, and even the first album of Cassius ('1999') was made in a period of time like that, had a lot of good songs. Ok, both albums are very minimalistic, but this one is... how can I say it... I mean, they can do better things than that! They proved it twice. I think they said 'ufff 4 years whitout making an album.. we should do something' 'yeah but I don't feel like... ok let's put the ones we didn't in the last two'. (Haha 'Technologic' seems like taken from Homework).
And hell yeah Ill buy their next album! Come on, I bought this one! LOL

Believe me, I wanted to make a very positive review cause I like Daft Punk, but after writing I listened to the album several times, and I must say I had to skip some songs cause it was getting irritating.

Still, like Jamirofan said 'a good little album'.

I've heard about the fact that this is the last album they released with Virgin Records. This just a forced release because of the end of their contract. Let's hope next album will be better than this one, so repetitive.
