JamiroFan Meets Common!

buffaloman_R Hello, buffaloman_R

If your not familiar with the American R&B/Hip Hop artist Common, he is probably the "most down to earth and keeping it real" R&B artist that is out there in the thick myriad of Urban Music. His 6th album, Simply and beautifully titled "Be" (Highlights: The Corner, Testify, Real People & It's Your World) , came out yesterday and I was fortunate to be the part of the states that he would be doing instore autograph signing for his new album (Masterfully produced by Kanye West!).

So today, I went to my local Tower Records (While I was there, I found out that THEY are getting the Japanese Import of Dynamite for $23.99!), I waited in line with other Common Fans to have him autograph my copy of his new album. About 35 minutes later, I got my turn to talk to him briefly. I told him I loved the album and his past work, and I was even able to drop a little hint about Jamiroquai's new stuff coming soon. Right after I dropped the initial "Jamiroquai" reference, he looked up at me and said in surprise, "Jamiroquai got a new joint coming out? When?" So I quickly verbally passed the info onto him and he smiled and thanked me. After the predictable "hand salute" with Common, I walked away with a big smile on my face. Very Happy If you want to hear some fresh new music, check out Common's new album, you won't be sorry Very Happy! Thanks for listening and I hope you all dig Common! Peace!

Sincerely,
JamiroFan2000

Brent,
just bought the cd at target with System of a Down's "Mezmorize". I've only sampled the first 4 songs on Common's album, but it's ill!!! It's really good. I wish I would've been able to get Common and exec producer Kanye West's autograph on it just like you did, but oh well. CD was only $9.99 at target... about $30 less than what I'll pay for a nice Dynamite import lol

Wow thats sooo nice JamiroFan!

Common came to Denmark a few years ago to perform at Roskilde Festival! I love 'The Light', from Like Water For Chocolate! My ex's song for me, sadly.. Crying or Very sad

But hey, he's such a good songwriter and really knows how to describe an emotion, og situation, so that you really like see a movie in front of you about it...

I know it's a bit old, but when he worked with The Roots, was soooo nice... When I wanna chill I put that album on... (Do you want more)

Take care you!

Miss Mary Wink

He might be "common" for you, but I've never heard of him. I hate r&b, what a boring genre of music!

It's not r and b, it's hip hop. It's rap. But this guy isn't just your normal rapper. Most rappers today talk about rollin on dubs, puttin rims on the escalade, gettin B*tches, bling bling, etc. Common's lyrics have always have had more depth and meaning than that.

Unfortunately, as dumb as an example as this is, Hip hop can be like professional wrestling. What I mean is, the most skilled guys aren't always the most famous. It's the guys that have the most charisma, talent, looks, etc. It's who's the most marketable, not who's the most skilled unfortunately.

Honestly that's kinda the reason why Jamiroquai doesn't get that much love, sales, airplay, etc in the U.S. Who's gonna sell more records? Britney or Jamiroquai? We all know who should, but Britney is unfortunately the answer to this question.

But back to Common, the dude has always been a great lyricist, and he talks about more stuff than the steriotypical rappers rhyme about these days. But now Kanye is his producer, and everything Kanye touches turns platinum. Common is probably gonna win some grammies for this album, and it's totally because Kanye is puttin him over the top. A dynamite producer with a dynamite lyricist= a dynamite album lol.

Favorite lyricso far: "Im bad, but not as bad as Eric Benet" lol

If y'all don't know who Eric Benet is, google his name, and find out who he cheated on. What a dumbass!

yeah, Erykah Badu isn't bad. I have one of her earlier albums: The one with "On and On" and "Apple Tree" on it. It's pretty good. I had a chance a couple of years ago to see her and Floetry in concert.... but then I thought to myself, this is gonna be a "man-roippin" concert, so I decided I'll save my money for Puff Daddy or somethin lol.

Yeh I've gotta get my hands on the new Common Album.

And also, keeping sort of in the same genre , I really like The Roots at the moment. 'The Tipping Point' is such a damn good album and I reccomend you guys give it a try.

Also, Mos Def latest album has got a couple of excellent tracks on it (and sum duds as well).
