Well... It's just my point of view, you're absolutely not oblidge to think just like me... I really love the "pre-marital sex" comparaison of Jay-88... That's more or less what I think (but of course it doesn't reveal what I'm doing in my private life, as I'm not yet married ).
The Abou Moslem point of view is quiet... astonishing (is that a good word ? ). I mean when someone commit a crime, and when you help him, you're guilty too... Even though you've listen to the album previously... "I downloaded it legally"... I'm sorry, but I do not think the same.
EvoV : You perfectly know that no comparaison can be made between bootleg & "official stuff"... Come on, be serious... I bought "official" CDs in stores (Jamiroquai, or any other artist...), but how can I buy something that isn't in stores, and will never be in stores ?
See ya !

To everone who thinks by illegally downloading he/she wouldn´t
cause any harm to the artist, because he/she was gonna buy the
physical album anyway:
Of course you are causing financial harm to Jamiroquai by
illegally downloading the mp3s !
Whether or not you are buying the physical album afterwards is not relevant.
Normally you would buy the physical album and buy the mp3s.
Now you only pay for the physical album and take the mp3-version for
free. ( or should I say "steal"...)
That makes a loss of 10 Euros for Jamiroquai for each illegal download of
the album.
Sorry but your argument ( " Because of the fact that I will buy this and that, I have the right to steal the mp3s..." )
is so absurd it makes me wanna laugh...
I guess next time you go to the grocery, buying 10 apples and after that stealing 10 pears.
And when the police ask you why you stole the pears you say:
" Well, I didn´t cause any harm to the grocer when stealing the pears, because I payed for the apples..."
Hope you are able to understand where I´m coming from, because logic doesn´t seem to be one of your favourite hobbies... |

to cosmic_kris: you win, you may be too logic for me to understand I'm sure your funny arguments can't be used in this case.

where did you get this? tell me, I want to know more about it.
my point is: I download the files, but I'm not sharing them with anybody. I'm getting files that I don't know where did they came from (the criminal would be the one who ripped and shared it). I would be a "criminal" in the case of sharing and sending the files all around the world. That's the way I would be doing harm to the band and the record label. Nobody have benefits of downloadings, that's for sure.
I found something else: (argentine copyright law)
The personal copies, unlike pirate copies, are due to be made from legitimately bought albums and to be used with personal and deprived aims.
That means, in 17 days, I won't be a criminal no more I'm so glad! That folder will be just a backup! _________________

Yep, I've got it now
I don't feel gulity in the slightest because I know I love jamiroquai and absolutely gonna buy the hard copy AS SOON AS IT HITS THE SHELVES!
Food for thought, JMQ releasing 3 versions of the same single in the AFO era, surely that's not fair either, tit for tat. (I bought all 3 of course) |

Hello Jamirotalkers,
I have to agree with Abou and Mouse this time, although I respect other ones decision, that is clear.
I listened the album in that Sony party like a month before the release, and I lost the impact of listen the album when I buy it, which I believe is something important to me.. well not important.. is like... something I'm used to. To tell you the truth I hesitated about going there several times, but I did.
I listened an excellent album, and I had the chance to download it (I COULDN'T RESIST, that is the truth) Don't know about copyrighted stuff, but I know I will buy anything that comes out. It doesn't matter if I heard it after or before, the main point is that the artist is not losing anything from me. And I know I won't share it with someone who will keep my copy and not buy the original album. I will buy his material.
cosmic_kris, don't feel attacked, please.

I am really interested in knowing the legal situation in the different countries. I am sure there are differences from country to country.
Leave away those emotional arguings and bring facts please. I am serious! I am really interested!
What is the situation? What can happen to people who share music in your country? What happens to people who are offering illegal downloads on their website and so on.
Mouse
BTW: Call me crazy, but I indeed will buy the real CD in a shop AND pay-download the mp3s for my iPod from iTunes. Yes, that's me. _________________ ~ I look up to Heaven, every star I see is mine.

its perfectly legal is many many countries to distribute any media on the web.
in sweden its 100% legal to run torrent trackers. (and put ANYTHING on it)
piratebay is a good example. make sure you read their legal threats section... hillarious
As far as I know torrent trackers are not illegal in australia/usa as you are not storing any illegal products on your server. only encripted text files(aka torrents )
people and companies might not like it but there's no juristiction as far as I can tell against it.
as far as I can tell, a few torrent trackers have gone down due to bullying from large companies... threatened by legal action.
One has gone down from a very corrupted administrator. _________________

I have it, but I refuse to listen to it all
I know, that makes me really stupid, because of course I'm going to buy it anyway, but the main thing holding me back was not wanting to hear it before the rest of the fans, and the general public. Then my mum said, "Why, just listen to it!" and I started to reconsider...
The question is...do I listen to it all to truly appreciate the album as a whole, or listen to individual tracks and then listen to the others when the album does come out _________________

Listen the album track by track, starting with number 1. The band constructs an album on a typical way they wants the fans to hear it. When you listened to an album many times or when you have not much time, skip tracks. |

In kind of skimming the various responses to the question, it's interesting to see the different sides' point of view on this. I will say I have downloaded the album. Someone brought up the point of waiting just 18 days for the album to come out. To a lot of us in here, it's not about waiting 18 days, WE'VE WAITED 4 DAMN YEARS FOR THIS!!!! And in the last year, we've encountered delay after delay after delay! You're very strong if someone says I can give you the whole album for free right now and you don't take it. I buckled to that temptation.
But! 'Mouse brought up a very good point. The people of this sight are some of the most hardcore fans of the band. If we truly are fans of the band, we owe it to them to purchase the cd when it comes out. I swear Im not a pirate. I literally have thousands of dollars worth of cds that I have bought. I still buy them. I haven't made any mp3 player conversion yet or anything. It sucks too, because Im the one who always buys cds, only to hear from my friends everytime "You should let me burn that"... Ok sory, Im straying from the main point here. TO SUM IT ALL UP, DOWNLOAD THE CD IF YOU WANT TO NOW, BUT WHEN THE ALBUM COMES OUT, BUY IT. _________________ Wouldn't 'ya like... To walk the sunny avenues of life? |
