Very Happy ... I don't know, I'll try to remember:

I wasn't in the web as much as I am since 2 years ago, so basically I didn't know where to search for updated Jamiroquai information. The first site I remember that I read the news of a new album called '2001: A Funk Odyssey' was from a site from Chile, but it said that 'Im In The Mood For Love' was the first single LOL

Then I found the funkin site, and I stayed there until Jamirotalk appeared. I remember reading the tracklisting of the album and thinking 'wow, I like the title 'Main Vein'!'. There's something different from that era, and is that I didn't know how to download things -I was a completely idiot haha- so I heard the album for the first time when I bought it. I regret of not doing that right now, but I couldn't resist downloading Dynamite.

I remember recording 'Little L' in a cassette everytime they pass it on the radio, and in one of them they played exclusively weeks before the release of AFO, the track 'Love Foolosophy'. I think I still have that recording.

Anyway, to sum up, when Jamirotalk.net appeared, the first post I did were a lot of questions I had about the band and the songs, and I've been informed almost everything about Jamiroquai. I'm thankful for that.

Back in 2001, my source of Jamiroquai news was the old .com, and they also announced the title '2001: A Space Oddessy'. After a while they also put up a streaming sample of 'Little L' which I would listen to constantly, since at the time it was put up, the single was over a month away!

I was listening to Radio 1 before the albums release, and all of a sudden I heard them announce an exclusive new track from the album called 'Black Crow', so I quickly recorded it onto tape, and listened to it constantly Very Happy

Sometimes I think today just isn't as much of a challenge Wink

I agree with diego...internet and especially downloads give a huge boost up to the attention of people. Everyday news, high quality downloads and forums keep us constantly on alert but i think that this effect is great only for the real fans...i don't see so much promotion for the album. Single is out but i don't hear it often on the radios nor i see the video very often on the music tvs. Anyway the album is really good so i expect a boost up on the sales after a period...hope so Wink

I'd say the official promotion was more coordinated (especially online), but among fans there was not as much chatter online as there is on Jamirotalk. In summer 2001 the primary fan discussion was on Jamline; the posting format of that forum is more primitive and less conducive to discussion - for example, you can only read one response at a time and there are no separate subject headings.
I think a major cause of the current longstanding 'buzz' is that information has leaked out in small increments over the course of several months. With AFO, the pre-album period was much less protracted than it has been for Dynamite.

Things seem very different this time around. It's almost as if the release was more calculated and planned than it was for AFO. I know that with AFO I heard promos and test pressings before the release date, and even though I liked what I heard I was not blown away.

Dynamite is truly a welcome surprise. I had high hopes for the album by default, but I have to say that hearing it now I am thankful that it is as good as it is. Hopefully it will renew a lot of people's faith in Jamiroquai as a band... and they'll be less inclined to dwell on "the old days."

Smile
