What do you think?
Hello all! 2wave

Well, I must admit that I am a bit disappointed about the fact, that Jamirotalk.net is not nominated in #6 and#7. Maybe I am more touchy than usual because of the hormones in my body...I don't know... Rolling Eyes ;)

They say at http://www.funky-frog.com/ :

Quote:
Note that nominees have been chosen for awards 6 and 7. The nominees have been chosen by the Jamline Moderators, depending on the impact they had/have on the Jamiroquai Online Community, and absolutely NOT depending on anything else (nationality, friendship, look, wealth, etc...)

Hm...2scratchchin... actually I do think that Jamirotalk really had/has an impact on the Jamiroquai Online Community. Just let me figure out some numerical data and facts:

The site is running for one year now.

In this (short) time we got 300 members,
3300 solid postings full of content, most of them about Jamiroquai.
In addition we have reviews and Photo-Galleries from concerts.
We have 3000+ visitors every month, from more than 50 different countries.
Even the bandmembers know this site and visited/visit us. Sola even posted a message here. Do you remember?

The moderators care about the members, answer questions, try to give information, help to support the band.

Nearly everyday I get emails from fans with questions, which I try to answer properly. You can imagine how many excited fans asked me, if it is true that Jamiroquai will stop. Shocked

So, this feedback I get from Jamiroquai fans from the whole planet shows me, that Jamirotalk.net indeed must have an impact. Or am I wrong here?

What do you think?

Anyways, if you like this site and want to support our work, then you still have the chance to vote for jamirotalk.net in #1. (Best website 2002)
outtahere

Thanks biglove
CosmicMouse

Yes Mouse, I was on the voting site and was shocked that jamirotalk is not nominated - so I voted on the first vote for you.
I really cannot understand it - don't they know this site or what is the reason that you are not nominated?????
It's really not fair from my point of view. But don't let it make you angry or sad - we will all vote for you as best website!!!

I do not think that your reaction is "touchy", CosmicMouse. I think it is legitimate 2yes .
In your post, you clearly stated the arguments that should have been considered about jamirotalk.net. and I agree very much with you.

On the other hand, it is not a drama. Very Happy
The Jamline reflects only a part of the Jamiroquai fans world. The Jamliners are only human (right? nervously ) and do not have a global and exhaustive knowledge about what's going on. (They are clever enough not to pretend to).

You quoted their method for selecting the nominees and I ask myself:
How do you measure an impact ? What is an impact ? Who represent the "online community"?
All this sounds highly personal and subjective to me. And that's OK, because this is all about passion, feelings, well... like Jamiroquai.

The Jamline gathers great personnalities and dedicated fans who have been around for along time. As far as I know, most of them belong the UK or native english speaking countries and the Jamline Awards reflects their culture and point of view.

Now, why not create a JAMIROTALK.NET AWARD that would reflect our international jamirotalkers community? 2grouphug
Instead of voting for "best fan site" (which is too inaccurate for my taste), we could learn more about the fans online, asking them which site(s) they fancy to:
- check the latest news about Jamiroquai
- talk/write about Jamiroquai
- get other's people view about Jamiroquai
- check discographies
- check biographies
- see/download pictures of the group
- exchange boots
- get a feed-back to their questions about the group
and so on...

In each category, there could be a rating system (rank #1, #2, ...) which would enable any site mentioned by the voters to have a chance.
There would be no pre-chosen nominees. Wink

Cool So, now I'm going to click on the link of Mr funky-frog to vote on the Jamline ...

Hey Guys!

As one of the admin for Jamline, I felt I should say something here.

I was one of those involved in making the decisions when it came to catergories and nominations. We didn't make those decisons lightly. There could have been 100s of catergories, but where would it end? We could have done away with the nominations too, as we did for a couple of the other catergories. 5 nominees seemed like a good idea, and we had to make a shortlist. There was a lot of discussion about who to put on those lists! I think the word "impact" maybe shouldn't have been used when explaining how the nominees were chosen.

You guys know how much I like this site, as I have posted often. I am even an admin here (I dunno, I'm never very good at doing admin things!!). The purpose of the "Ten Years Of Jamiroquai" voting section was to try and reflect how fans feel about the Online Community over the years. Jamirotalk.net is definitely part of our heritage as fans, but please understand that we also had to consider people and sites that unfortunately aren't around today. A few years back, when fan actitivy was much higher than it is now, these sites were the most popular and most visited. We can't ignore or forget that.

Concerning Jamline: I actually think it does reflect a truly Global jamiroquai community. I remember a while back there was a plan to create a kind of "Fan Map" to show where everyone was situated. It would have been covered in 'dots', because there are people on Jamline that are from places you couldn't even imagine Jamiroquai's music had touched. I also know that there are many Jamliners subscribed here, Jamirotalk-ers on JTalk, JTalk-ers on JPA, etc etc. Fans go to ALL the sites for their news, gossip, downloads and conversation.

I suppose the only way to get everyone's true opinions is to do a great big survey! But nobody likes doing big surverys. The measure of a good site/forum is when people want to go there all the time. The Jamline Awards is just a fun way of fans saying what they like about being in the Jamily. It's not like we get sponsorship or anything! In fact, next year I'm gonna call Adidas... Wink

So, Meike, I hope you understand that any decisions that were made were really not against you or the success of Jamirotalk.net. I have my own private views on certain things but I didn't let them come in front of how we did the Awards. To give my true opinon, I voted...!

I hope you will all do the same.
