Birmingham Sept. 7, 2005 REVIEWS
What can i say apart from a excellent setlist, i got there early to get my seats and was right opposite the stage, saw everything. Put a few of them Join Jamirotalk leaflets out, put them on the seats, food bars and area they were selling things, Spread the Word of the Jamily !!!!!!
wont give a full review as i cannot remember all of them as i was dancing and singing, i was that exstatic ppl around me moved away as was dancing so mad.
best songs were all of the Dynamite tracks, especially Give hate a chance, and love blind (a track i dont particularly like on the album), time wont wait was excellent to dance, dynamite was funky and fresh.
a twist of new and old track, loving revolution 1993, although everyone in the stands around me had no clue what song it was, loved the way the band switched between two tracks without a inclin, threw me a few times,
alright was much better this year, got the crowd involved big time but the song didn't drag on for ages, thinking about it there wasn't many song that went on for ages, the band was on top for especially Derrick and Sola.
The encore of Deeper Underground, was even better, everyone started leaving tho, but the fans dug in and did the all time foot stamp and drew them back out for a cracking version with a excellent solo of rob harris, which made the show even better. The ones who left were not best happy i suspect....
Thanks for listening,

Great, Andy!!! Thanks for the review!
And also big thanks for spreading the jamirotalk flyers !! Good job!
Mouse
P.S.: I've changed the topic title, because it wasn't obvious (at least for me ) that it is a thread for Birmingham concert reviews... I hope you don't mind! _________________ ~ I look up to Heaven, every star I see is mine.

Its alright Cosmic Mouse, it thought i better do my job for the Jamily, i been a fan for over 11 years now, god thinking about it i was 10 when started listening to it and its time to spread the word of jamiroquai.
did you go? it was good to see a mixed crowd there, most were aged 18-40, but was a small amount of youngsters, which was good to see, including a 3 year old who had to wear ear protectors as it was too loud

offtopic: @ Meike it's a pleasure to see that u like the jamirotalkers gigs reviews |
Reading and posting concert reviews was one of the main reasons to open jamirotalk!! How could I not like them?
When I am not responding to every good comment here, it's just that I have most of the time my kids around me, or they even sit on my lap... so I am reading and enjoying (nearly) every post here, especially reviews... but cannot answer all of the time.

alright everyone, i just been reading all the reviews for NEC brum, theres a lot of mixed results, the scottish herald thought it was very bad and sounded all the same, some songs do mingle but i cannot see how they say its all the same.
some ppl left early and their reasons were "not my thing" or "like i was preaching to him" is true in some reasons as jamiroquai is my religion
Diego- love blind was excellent but it needed a few tweaks in it to make it perfect, but for their first time playing it live it went down very well, BDC was very good too!!!!

Hey, thought I'd reply since I was there too. I've not been on here for a month or so while Noe's been here (though she has been posting stuff), so hello again everyone.
I won't write a full review of my own (I've just posted one on the JPA, if anyone is interested), just a few comments from what's written above (without any attempts to start arguments intended)...
- It was a fabulous setlist, but in my opinion a couple too many 'rocky' numbers - I like them to varying degrees on the CDs, but Deeper Underground is the only one that's ever really grabbed me when done live, and it didn't work quite as well as others might have done as an encore. For me, cutting a couple, or all, of BDC, BCD, FJLIS and DU (as well as Love Blind, which to me sounded a bit messy, although I do quite like it on CD) would have given the band either; a) enough time within the set to expand on some of the other songs a bit more - there wasn't an awful lot of jamming - or b) enough space to stick... oh, let's say... TYTD and TWM in there as well.
- However, it WAS nice (not to mention surprising!) to heard BCD given an outing. First time I saw Jami live was the Birmingham gig of the Synkronized tour - which was two days BEFORE that album's release, and thus none of us knew half the songs. It was great to be able to sing along to it this time!
- Love Blind, to me, sounded a bit messy. I know I just said that, but it serves as a separate point really.
- I'll stop grumbling now: Canned Heat - SUPERB opener. Revolution 1993 is the song I've spent my Jami-loving life waiting to see live, the entire section between and including Use The Force and Alright was absolutely magical, especially the last four songs. Oh, and the new bassist (Paul Taylor - not sure what's happened to Alex Meadows) actually plays the bass during gigs, which is a vast improvement on Nick Fyffe straight away. He also plays it really rather well, which is even better!
- Despite some of the points above, I really didn't have any grumbles at all with the gig. It was superb, really good fun (though as I've said, a bit more instrumental improvisation would have improved it), and, of course, Noe and I were there together. An unforgettable night.
The worst thing was the ridiculously overpriced merchandise, most of which didn't even have a buffalo man on it. And they sold out of keyrings...
