Fans dancing on stage...
Davinas Boogie with Jamiroquai on the stage in Singapore now seemed to be the start of a neverending big party between the band and the fans.
What did Jay say right before Davina's performance?
"We normally don't do this, but for this we'll make an exception... You just have to ask!"
But this was NOT an exeption as we can see now!
At the concert in Melbourne Jay invited up on stage and introduced the crowd to Andrew Moulton (contributor of Jamline and funkin.net).
Later at the Sydney show, during the encore of Alright, about 20 people were invited up on stage to boogie!
And now it goes on in th UK: After Toby recognized Erica Browne and Sarah McCormick, two popular Jamliners, in the front row at the Manchester-Gig, they were invited to boogie on stage during the last song. :eek2:
We should all fall on our knees to thank Davina for her ingenious idea of asking them to come up on stage. I am sure that this was the breaking point and the start of a new dimension of showing the fans how close and attentiv the band is to their supporting fans.
Congratulations to all the lucky fans who had the "time of their lives"

i think, being on stage with Jamiroquai is still something special. Imagine if they would let just anybody on stage. First, it would be hard to spot the bandmembers and second, they probably would have a hard time to perform with lots of blond girl hanging around their necks
i am actually more interessted in going to an aftershow-party and maybe have the opportunity to have a chat with the guys for a while. but to be honest, i probably wouldn't say "No" to an opportunity to go on stage... just not sure about the dancing though... _________________ Dear Auntie Em. But Bear,
imagine CosmicMouse and CosmicBear, dancing on the stage...
THAT would be THE "PR-gag" for jamirotalk.net, don't you think so???

REALLY??
you know, that never occurred to me before until i read it here... and i didn't think of it in that way at all...
thanks so much to cosmicmouse for bringing this topic up and your kind words. jamirotalk has really made my day! :)
wow, did i make THAT much of an impact?
u sure i'm the one who started it off?
if it is, then i feel truly, TRULY honored to be a pioneer in something! :)
i have finally found my purpose on earth ;)
I'm more than happy to know that i opened the doors to a new brand of jamiroquai experience.
and when i read other people saying about how escatatic they were to go on stage with the band, all i do is smile because i can relate and know how they must have felt.
thank god i wasn't the only one to be brought up on stage during the funk odyssey tour- it's fantastic to share the feeling and experience with other fans... and i know loads of other people who deserve it even more than me!
to everyone who hasn't gotten their chance yet... don't ever stop dreaming! it helps a lot! especially when ppl close to you (like your parents) don't believe in you either, like in my case. never think that anything is impossible. just do what YOU wanna do, and make sure you do it YOUR way - don't let anybody tell you otherwise. let people think what they wanna think. just believe in yourself... and sometimes you may seem like some sad desperate case, but that's how you get places! and i'm proud to say that i'm living proof! :P
i very recently read something that Oprah Winfrey once said: "Luck is a matter of preparation meeting opportunity."
trust me, it's so goddamn true. so people, start preparing NOW!
good luck, god bless you all, never stop spreading the funk around!
P.S. about the thing that jay said before i came on... i doubt those were Jay's exact words, so pls don't quote me on it! but i know for sure that it was somewhere along those lines. |

Hi Davina!
As far as I can see, you were the first one to get on stage during the AFO-Tour. I don't know exactly if this was the very first time in Jami-History that they invited some fans to come up on stage
Maybe they did so at previous tours?! But I don't think so. Would be interesting if your boogie had been the very first Jamiro-Fan-Experience on a stage!
We could ask DarthBuzz: He has seen Jami in concert 33 (meanwhile 34???) times. Or David Rowe? Or someone could even ask the bandmembers?
Keep groovin'!

UK review - Birmingham NEC, 25th February
I was lucky enough to go to the Jamiroquai concert at the Birmingham NEC on the 25th Feb. The opening set of Beverley Knight was awesome and she got a great reception, especially being a local girl (she comes from Wolverhampton, which is very close to Birmingham).
The level of anticipation before the curtain was pulled back was incredible. When it finally happened - it was awesome! The stage had been set up with many different levels, each one having a member of the band on it. The backdrops to the stage are really wicked, changing to suit the song.
Set list was: Twenty zero one, Cosmic Girl, Main Vein, Love Foolosophy, Bad Girls, Black Crow, Little L, Sola & Derrick solo (leading into) Travelling Without Moving, Space Cowboy, You Give Me Something, Deeper Underground and the encore Alright.
Deeper Underground was by far the highlight including Jay's footsteps around the stage during the introduction. I loved Sola's solo (very nice!) then his wickedly long percussion duet with Derrick that turned into TWM, especially Sola's scatting! Also very good, but unexpected was the upping of the tempo in Black Crow to a drum and bass tune!!!
Jay and the band were on top form throughout! Rob Harris was very, very impressive, his solo to Deeper Underground was out of this world!
Jay also made light of the recent newspaper coverage about his apparent "brawl" after the Brit Awards and claimed that his little legs were not up his unique style of dancing anymore! Don't worry Jay - after seeing all the leaping you did on Monday, you've got plenty of life left in those little legs!
Also, following the trend at recent concerts, members of the audience were invited into the stage during Alright.
I for sure won't forget Monday night for a long, long time. A little bit disappointed that Virtual Insanity wasn't included in the set (it would have made a wicked encore!) Got to remember to get a standing ticket next time!

2002 tour
I was lucky enough to go to the bimingham gig too, and it was out of this world BUT what spoilt it for me was the people leaving the arena while the band were still on stage!! How rude! I cannot believe that anyone would be happy to miss the end of the show, but worse still, to not show your appreciation to the band is unforgiveable. I thought the encore was pretty short, was this because the guys were pissed off at the lack of respect, or were encores at the other shiows limited to one number? |

they had two encores in Hamburg, Berlin and Brixton Academy.
in hamburg alright was the last "official" song (with a huuuge audience extension) and deeper underground the encore. in berlin it was reversed. first they played deeper underground as a regular sound, then said goodbye and came back for alright. and at brixton academy the same i think. i am not totally sure about the order in brixton. but they played both songs for sure. does anyone went there too and remembers it?

I think the order is correct, Bear.
Sum up:
Brixton and Berlin: one encore --> Alright
Hamburg: two encores, if you count the second jam of Alright, performed with the audience after they came back on stage.
Second encore: Deeper Underground
@LittleH: Could it be that the people who left the gig earlier, wanted to go to the back entrance, trying to catch the bandmembers after the show?

Early leavers.....
I think that people were leaving early in order to get home, as the trains stopped ridiculously early. I had to sprint from the NEC to Birmingham International train station as the last train left at 11pm and the gig finished at about 10.45pm, otherwise I would have been stranded in Birmingham until 5am in the morning! Not an experience I would wish on anybody!

that doesn't sound like fun at all, kingcal!
why do they stop the trains so early in britain? we had to take a taxi after the concert at brixton academy. _________________ Dear Auntie Em. Hate you, hate Kansas, took the dog. Dorothy. x |

UK trains.....
It's very strange indeed... in my experience when I'm at home in London, away from uni, you can get trains running pretty often up until midnight, then after that it's usually one every hour or so until about 5am. It seems that in Birmingham this isn't the case! I would have loved to hang round afterwards to see if I could bump into the boys! Oh well...........

yes, they have brought up fans to dance with them b4, but i'm not sure about the bigger-scale performances i.e. concerts. i know for sure that they did it once in the past at a small gig. i read about that one in a fan review, and that was my inspiration behind my banner.
and what was up with the birmingham crowd, man? in the words of jar jar binks: 'how wude!' |
