Can I just say before I start - what a GREAT idea for a topic! I've not read through everyone else's selections, but here are mine... and I've tried to put them in an approximate chronological order, and I'll put a bit of the reasoning behind each choice as well. And so you have some idea, I'm 21 now, and the numbers at the end of each selection are my approximate age when I first heard the album in question.

1) 2Unlimited - 'The Very Best of 2Unlimited' - yeah, embarrassing this one, but it was the first CD I ever bought, aged 11.

2) Jamiroquai - 'Travelling Without Moving' - or more specifically the Virtual Insanity video, which got me into them, which in turn led, eventually, to my getting in touch with Noe... (12)

3) Jamiroquai - 'Return of The Space Cowboy' - when I discovered that there was an even better Jami album than TWM. (12/13)

4) Pink Floyd - 'The Wall' - the first Floyd album I found listenable. After which I went back and started to like... (14)

5) Pink Floyd - 'The Dark Side of The Moon' - had a proper Floyd obsession in my mid-late teens. Everyone has to, it's the law. (15)

6) Jamiroquai - 'Synkronized' - two reasons: first, it was the start of the twin axis Synk / AFO period of Jami being crap and (for me at least) mildly depressing, and second, much better, it was the first time I got to see them in concert! (15)

7) The Beatles - 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band' - not actually their best one, but it's the intro to them for just about everyone of my generation. (16)

Cool Radiohead - 'Kid A' - The day I discovered proper rock music was still alive. (17)

9) Stevie Wonder - 'Innervisions' - Brilliant. I needn't give a reason for listing this.

10) Herbie Hancock - 'Headhunters' - the first jazz album I bought. It changed how I listen to music, broadened my listening horizons, and I've never looked back. (1Cool

11) Jamiroquai - 'Dynamite' - OK it's not really had a HUGE impact on my life so far, BUT I got to see them WITH NOE on the tour this year, which was amazing for both of us, AND it cheered me up no end when I heard it and realised that unlike the previous two (and against all expectations, after hearing the first single), it was actually good. The start of a new era...

What a range of stuff posted in here! I had one helluva time trying to even choose less than fifty albums that I have found most influential in my life, let alone get it down to ten! Here is a first attempt to list some of the things I heard and could not get out of my head (in no particular order)

1. Sergeant Pepper, Revolver, the White Album - the Beatles
2. the overture to Wagner's Lohengrin (believe it or not, if you ever wanted to hear the sound of light, this is it angel )
3. La Cathédrale Engloutie by Claude Debussy (this piece is all about the balance between silence and sound)
4. Off the Wall by Michael Jackson (makes me dance... offwall )
5. Beethoven's Ninth Symphony (if you are not moved by this one - even just a bit - then I pity you)
6. Take 5 by Dave Brubeck (my first intro to the possibility of music written in groups of five beats at a time)
7. The Sounds of India by Ravi Shankar (a great intro to Indian classical music, which blows Western music away in terms of its complexity)
8. Faces and I Am by Earth, Wind and Fire (everybody boogie!! jumpinggreens )
9. Saturday Night Fever (the soundtrack)
10. ABBA
11. Tony Bennett
12. Jamiroquai, of course... Cool

There are so many artists that I listen to: Stevie Wonder, Elton John, Billy Joel, Aretha Franklin, Nina Simone, Ella Fitzgerald, Sinatra, Wynton Marsalis, Pavarotti, Domingo, Dillon Parmer, Diana Krall, Daft Punk, Black Eyed Peas, K-os, Basement Jaxx, Marvin Gaye, the Bee Gees, ...where does it begin and end, really?

1. Kiss - Rock 'n' Roll Over [in 1976, at the age of 5 this album made me get into music at an early stage... I decided I wanted to be a rock star rather than a police man or a fire fighter]

2. Ekseption - Ekseptional Classics [I already liked some classical music, especially baroque music... this Dutch band made it sound like it never sounded before... it is just... well, awesome!]

3. Yngwie Malmsteen's Rising Force - 1st album [this is the album that finally made me start playing the guitar... metal with a baroque twist... at the time I couldn't think of anything better, perhaps with the exception of Ekseption of course Wink]

4. Queen - A Night At The Opera [this is a magic album... need I say more?]

5. The Beatles - Magical Mystery Tour [everybody keep mentioning Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, but this is my fave album by the Beatles]

6. Jean Michel Jarre - Equinoxe [Jarre made me interested in synthesizers]

7. Eumir Deodato - Deodato 2 [Deodato was the one who got me hooked on the sound of the Rhodes piano and I knew I had to buy one for myself]

8. Curtis Mayfield - Superfly [I was fed with soul, disco and funk as a child, I enjoyed (and still do) Blaxploitation movies, I was a product of the early 70's and the music in TV-shows like Kojak made happy... Superfly was a very important album when I developed my taste in music]

9. Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66 - Look Around [the song Roda made me really interested in latin music]

10. 2 Unlimited - Get Ready [with this album (and music genre) I learned that it wasn't necessary to be in a band, I realised it could be very easy to make music on my own, and to make good money off it as well]

11. Jamiroquai - Emergency On Planet Earth [it was actually the Acid Jazz release of 'When You Gonna Learn' that made me aware of the new, hot and exciting London style called acid jazz... this album changed so much for me... I even bought a digeridoo Laughing... I loved listening to Revolution 1993 (especially the part between 7:38 and 9:14) when I was stoned]

Jamiroquai-ALL
Plus, in no particular order:
1. Cat Stevens- "Teaser and Firecat" & "Tea for the Tillerman"
2. Jimi Hendrix-"Electric Ladyland"
3. Earth Wind and Fire-I'm not sure what album it was, my parents had a bunch of 45's.
4. Prince-From my parents 45 (his first single) through my own collection (I couldn't chose one if I wanted to.
5. Bad Brains-"Sail on"
6. Ministry-"The Land of Rape and Honey"
7. White Zombie-"Astro Creep"
8. Black Sabbath-"We Sold our Soul For Rock 'n Roll."
9. Donna Summers="Star Gold" another one of my parents
10.Tom Waits-"Rain Dogs"
11 just barely scratches the surface.

Man, there's this brother from France. I don't know his name, I can't find the album. I heard it once from a file somebody sent me and lost it. He's got the most beautiful voice. I couldn't even understand what he was saying. He plays guitar I think. Anyone know who I'm talking about? I know this is a long shot, but thought I'd try. Very prominent lips I remember, dark skin...damn, I can't remember his name. Anyone?
